I just looked again, and the file review section is after the supplemental application information, and before all the checklist stuff of the status page. MSU sent me the link to this page after they received my VMCAS and "invited" me to complete the supplemental. It was updated to "file review" on 10/22 and I submitted my VMCAS in early September (I don't remember the exact date). Good luck to all of you that applied, hope this helps! :luck::luck::luck:

yea, i was pretty surprised by it too! it makes things so much easier esp. travelling from the east coast and asking for time off from work 🙂
 
My interview at KSU is on a Sunday! I thought that was pretty weird.
 
My ksu interview is also on a Sunday. They must have very dedicated faculty to come in and do interviews on a Sunday =o)

I submitted in early september, but i'm not sure of the exact date. I am currently enrolled in Cell Bio, and will be taking animal nutrition next fall. They don't discount you for missing pre-reqs, as long as you have them completed by matriculation. And just so you know, if you happen to get waitlisted (not that you would 😉) FINISH THE PREREQS!!!! They accept LOTS of people off the waitlist!
 
Texas A&M has started sending out interview letters. A friend of mine got one today.
 
I'm not sure if it's in this thread or another, but people keep referring to the evaluation process as getting assigned a number of points based on your GPA (or pre-req GPA?) and GRE composite, and then people who meet a certain criteria are extended offers for interviews. I'm not sure if this is only for specific schools or what, but I was curious if anyone knows more about this. I'm especially curious because this seems so simplified compared to my impression of how it was done. I'm hoping that at least some schools take a larger view from the beginning. Does anyone have additional information on how certain schools do things? (I'm trying not to stress, but as a non-traditional candidate, the idea that my pre-req GPA--largely from undergrad--and my GREs are the only things representing me right now is not very comforting as it excludes the majority of things that make me a good/interesting candidate.)

Anyone have any insight? (I'd prefer knowledge to speculation, as speculation can be strongly influenced by our own biases.)

On UTK's website, there's a section that tells you how they assign points. They give points for GPA of individual science classes and as a whole, points for how many classes you took each semester, most recent GPA, total number of semester hours done, and the GRE composite.

They also assign points for your interview based on how you did and weight it based on how hard the interview team was.

He lives in Texas and is presently enrolled at A&M. That maybe why he got a letter so soon. As far as the prereqs go... I think he has the second biochem and maybe public speaking.

Also, you don't sound obsessive. I am the exact same way about this process.
 
I knew a student who applied last year and received a November interview...she was also currently enrolled at the university at the time.

Some look at things more holistically but many just go on a points system. From what I've heard at UF during a presentation in the prevet club is that they cut the application pool from 900ish in half just on GPA/GRE cut offs. They then look at the whole application and give points to 6 categories (GPA (3 types), GRE, Experience, Letters of Rec, Personal Statement, and Intangibles). These points cut the pool in half again and decide who gets invites to interview.
 
For those who have already heard from OSU regarding interviews - did they give you a choice of dates, or did they only offer you one day for the interview? Thanks!
 
OSU called me and gave me a bunch of open dates...last year they assigned me a date and if I couldn't make it, too bad. They were very nice!

I was initially given a choice of something like 10 different dates and technically had 2 wk notice prior to those dates (except that Thanksgiving fell in the middle) Since I had to make flight reservations, I did not choose a date immediately but said I would call back w/ my selection. When I did call back in less than a 1/2 hour, a few of the dates that had been offered were already taken.

For those of you who have flown to interviews - what did you do about getting around once you were there? Taxis? Did you rent a car? Can you rent a car if you're under 25? Thanks!

I believe Enterprise rents to people over 21.

Congrats Trinka and Mossyducks on the Texas A&M interview! Trinka, you said you are an undergrad at Texas A&M so the letter did not have far to go. Mossyducks are you from Texas as well? I'm out of state and waiting with baited breath. Did they send the letter to your campus address or to your home? I have a 2 and a half more weeks to go in school so if they are starting to interviews already i'm getting anxious.

i got an interview at A&M. got it in the mail yesterday (11/28) for dec 18. unfortunately i'm supposed to fly out to new york that day so i had to reschedule for some time in jan and i won't know till the next letter comes in. if i'd known it was going to be so soon i wouldn't have planned on going out of town. do you guys think this will lessen my chance of getting in? do they accept as the interview process continues or do they interview everyone first and then make a choice.
 
oh and polo vet, i don't know if you were interested in knowing, but i got the letter at my home address and i am not a texas a&m student. i'm also instate.
 
my advisor said that at A&M, they don't make any decisions until after all the interviews are finished and when you interview has no bearing on your chances of acceptance - hope this helps!
 
Does anybody have any idea how many people KSU is interviewing in the first round of interviews???

Waiting for news from TAMU, I'm at school in NJ so it's gonna take a little longer to reach me, hope to hear from them soon!

"File Review" means they are in the process of reviewing your application. They are going over your gre/gpa/personal statement... everything included in your application (transcripts and all that included). Michigan State does rolling admissions, so depending on when you submitted your application is relatively when you can expect them to get to your application and review it (i.e. early, middle, late in the process). After they are done, they will send you a letter for an interview if they choose. I'm not sure if Michigan State inteveiws all of the OOS applicants that they are considering (I think they do), nor do I know if you are an OOS applicant. This is roughly how MSU works. Thanks for the reply...I am OOS, my status changed to "File Review" on 11/19, and said process takes 3-5 weeks. So glad to know this forum's around, helps take the edge off!
 
any out-of-staters heard back from Texas A&M yet? I have my mom on mail watch in SC, and I keep checking my school mailbox.... just in case
 
Rex- you are correct, out of state applicants do get interviewed at Michigan State. Congrats on your interview, maybe I'll see you on your tour! Good luck interviewing this week!
