I was wondering if anyone has done this. If so, how challenging was it? I want the best chance of making A's in both classes.

It should be plenty manageable. Are you taking labs as well?

Take them both. You'll have tougher combinations of classes as you continue in college. If you can't handle simultaneous gen chem and biology you won't be able to handle med school anyway.

Medical schools like to see that you can handle multiple difficult classes at one time. I think if you put in enough work you should be fine.

Not this again.

Thousands of people do this every year. As a medical student, you will be required to complete a much, much more rigorous course schedule.

If your college schedule allows you to space apart your sciences to engage in a little grade protection, no problem. But you'll be doing yourself a service by eventually learning how to handle multiple science courses at once. And 'two' doesn't count as 'multiple'.

Thanks. These classes will have lab included. I probably have to chose my schedule wisely. I hear that both these classes can be demanding.

Just for sh*ts and giggles I decided to pull up my course list from Spring 2011:

Undergraduate Seminar in Biology
Histology and Cytology
Vertebrate Physiology
Biochemistry I
Organic Chemistry II
General Physics II
General Physics Laboratory

Only B was in Histo because that professor was an @ss 🙄 OP, you can do it.

I have done it. It is really not that bad to take that combination.

That's one of the easiest schedules out there. You will see far worse schedules in the future.

I'm pretty sure the vast majority of typical pre-meds (aka coming into college waving the "pre-med" flag) double on intro bio and intro chem in their freshman year. Stay on top of things and you'll be fine.

If you're barely starting college, it might be pretty difficult especially if you don't have a strong background in either or both; in the case that you are a freshman, I would recommend just taking one so you can make your transition into college easier. If you really want to take both, go for it, it's completely doable.

If you aren't a freshman, you should hopefully know what you can handle; it is very typical for a pre-med to take two or more pre-reqs at the same time.. If you're on the quarter system, it can be a little challenging but there's no way you're going to be able to avoid it. A pre-med that has to take only one science class at a time to do well is going to struggle immensely in med school..

Uh... I thought like every pre-med did these two classes in the same year?

This is what I think each time this thread comes up. I actually don't know of any pre-meds at my school who didn't take these 2 intro classes together.

No one has done this before. Please stay safe OP

Oh and when I said no one I meant everyone. Don't worry you will be fine.... Just study.

You really should take those two at same time. Do not however pull what I did: Calc, gen chem, bio, upperclassman literature class + time consuming EC. Especially with no study habits from high school. Man I wish I could redo freshman year...

I did this in my freshmen year and it was manageable...biology was a lot easier for me however chemistry needs more practicing and more following up but again an A in both is manageable.
Good luck

Do it! I wish I had done it. It should be pretty manageable as those classes are freshman level!. Good luck!
