Im getting ready to sign up for classes and I'm debating on taking bio vs intro to bio. Just the sole fact that I jumped into gen chem and I haven't taken a chem class for a couple years, resulting in trying to learn a lot of the basics. I heard bio is just a lot of memoriZation so there isn't like formulas like chemistry. So do you guys think I should just jump into regular bio or intro? Unfortunately due to my rocky start I will probably end up with a B in chem.

Thanks!

My experience, this may help: At my university I came in with no chem background and I heard jumping into Chem 1 was suicide. I took intro to chem and it prepared me very well through chem 1. Bio is a little different. The memorization you do in a Bio class is not that bad. I didn't have a bio background and I went straight into Bio 1. I aced it. I actually read the textbook so that really helped me with the beginning concepts. I think an intro to bio is unnecessary. Just my 2 cents.

ok that's exactly what I've heard. I feel if anything I should've took intro to chem, but that's just the way it goes. So bio 1 was pretty straightforward in terms of memorizing for you? And background info on bio wasn't necessary?

Yeah it was straightforward. I didn't have any issues. Bio 2 was boring with the plants crap that we have to learn (I'm flabbergasted that this is on the DAT...). But Nope. From my own experience. I came into college with 1 AP Credit (world history). I came from an innercity school and our AP bio teacher was awful so I never took the class. No background whatsoever in biology. I did very well.

To add. I took Bio 1 sophomore year while taking organic chem, lab, bio lab, nutrition and an elective class or something. 4.0 semester. It can be done! If your school has stuff like "smoking notes" or something that can help too.

A type of note taking service where they would hire an individual in the class to take excellent notes and then you can purchase them before each exam. Ran about 10.00 a packet when I went to school. Really saved time if you missed a few classes here and there.
