i understand not wanting to fork over money to a "professional" to consult you about a rather small amount. depending if you earned income or not last year and assuming you are talking about less than or equal to $4,000 to invest - i would be suprised if you could find something better than opening an account through someone like fidelity and putting that money into a Roth IRA - not a typical IRA. place it all in one fund - something rather diversified like SPY (spider - S&P DEP RECEIPTS) might be a good start and just let it sit there. that money will be huge by the time you retire. i don't think i am too far off base by saying that the wealthiest dentists close to retirement are not the ones who netted the most off their practice yearly, but who invested EARLY and wisely.
