Ugh looks like I didnt make it into Iowa on rolling. Now I have to wait until march to see if they will accept me. How many do they accept on rolling and final pool?

I interviewed at Iowa mid-December. How did you find out you were in the final pool? Through a letter or a phone call? Good luck, I think the final pool is notified mid-March.

I was wondering the same...

Last year it seems that they 'over accepted' (see last years thread) OOS candidates during the rolling phase and therefore no OOS'ers were accepted in the final pool--just rejected or waitlisted. About 40 OOS'ers did get in off the waitlist though. Maybe they did not take as many OOS'ers during rolling admissions this year to compensate for the issue last year. Who knows. For a school that prides istself on communication--it seems that the information is pretty slow in coming. There were 2 folks that reported getting in last week but other than that it has been pretty silent. At least they have a very clearly ranked waitlist so you know where you stand. Good luck to everybody:luck:

I'm going to have to agree with that. I prefer news to no news, even if it is bad news.

Meg@Cool, Were you told you were in the final pool for sure? When I called, the woman said she didn't know for sure (the system was down), but "if I haven't heard, then I am probably in the final pool".

You will get an email that says you're in the final pool, so if she said that, she probably doesn't know what she's talking about.

So it sounds as though those without an acceptance letter are going to get the final pool email sometime soon. Bummer. I guess they have let in a lot of folks that have not posted on SDN! Maybe that is the secret:laugh:

Have you gotten such an email yet?

No, but I did get that email last year. It will come. Plus, I called last week and asked if we would be emailed when they decide who is in the final pool and she said yes.

I called earlier this week....Tuesday..and they said that rollin is definately over with and that those that have not been notified will be notified at the end of this month..so were are basically all in the final pool if we have not been contacted via mail yet...did anyone else in this forum interview on Dec. 13th?

So, if I understand correctly.... Everyone that has not gotten a letter yet will be notiifed by email shortly that they are held for the final pool. Just for my own interest, what do they do between now and then? Are they still interviewing? Then in March (by the 15th, I think), they tell everbody either yes, no, or give them a numbered spot on the waitlist? Swell, lots more waiting. 👎

Wow. 40 OOS'ers got off the wailist. This a lot, considering that only 30% of the class is from OOS and the class size is only out of 142. Are you sure about this? The number doesn't sound right to me.

I was told they accept half of the OOS applicants they interview. That number is would be something like 150/300, so I believe they could get that many off the waitlist.

i like swimming pools... <--- that is prohibited content ?

life is grand on communist dictactorship censored forums....

Well F&$@ me! I interviewed in early January... does that mean I have no shot of getting a straight acceptance?

I interviewed on the 8th of December and I've not heard anything either. This really sucks!!!!!

Yea, I am pretty sure. Some years they take many more than that off the OOS waitlist. You can get the info from last years thread. I don't have time to look it up now but I the the title of the thread was "Iowa" and the OP was "2Boys" or something like that. And the 40 number was after they went through about 50 or so OOS students that were over accepted during the rolling phase of admissions. Good luck everybody!

I just received the "you have been moved to the final pool" e-mail, so I guess that should start ending all our speculation regarding what pool we're in.

Damn, you beat me to it. I too will be swimming in the final pool for the next 6 weeks.

what date did u interview?

Gotta love interviewing September 20 and not hearing anything until now. That can't bode well for my chances.

Huh... I'm confused... how many categories are there? Rolling accepted, Final pool, Final pool accepted, final pool rejected? Someone mentioned waitlist, but I don't see that on their website anywhere...

Waitlist all comes out of the final pool ... so I guess there are technically three final pool categories: accepted, rejected, and waitlisted (rank-ordered from what I hear). I agree, though, Iowa makes this process way too convoluted and weird.

They only make a waitlist after the final pool decisions (around Mar 15th). There are separate waitlists for IS and OOS and you are given a rank number on the list.

Do we get the information on our status page or it gets sent to us?

I got it via e-mail.

I just checked my email and found it. Final pool review - another six weeks of waiting...totally sucks.
Is this better that rejection or is it the first phase of rejection?

It's certainly not a rejection, but it's not a great sign either. They said they normally accept 2/3 of their matriculants via rolling and 1/3 via final pool and that they don't reject anyone until the end of the final pool (March 15) that has been interviewed except in extremely terrible circumstances, so it will probably be tough going for those of us in the final pool. I hope I'm wrong, though.

Just got email. Rolling over. Bummer. 🙁

This is great news, I love waiting, and then waiting some more. 👎

What am I supposed to look for in the mailbox now!? Pizza coupons!? I might actually have to start functioning in everyday life for the next 6 weeks.😱

wow, this sucks. I'm really disappointed..anyone have any stats on acceptances, rejections, etc at this point?

It's tough to tell ... not many people are listed as accepted thus far on the threads, but obviously there have to be a lot more actually accepted than we know.

so if you were put in this pool, what percent happy/disappointed would you be?

I'm about 50% happy, because that's about what they said your chances were (1 in 2) if you received an interview.

Does anyone know when the admissions committee meets to make final decisions? Last year it was about the 8th or so and folks got their snail mail letters on or about the 13th. Ia City folks--any inside scoop? Last year all the OOS final pool folks were waitlisted or rejected as apparently they 'overaccepted' OOSers during the rolling phase. It would be nice if this was not the case this year. At least Iowa is very transparent rearding the wait list--being given a number definitely helps in figuring out the odds. Let's keep in touch.

Yea I'm way ready to finally hear something soon, as I interviewed way back in September. I don't like my chances, though.

BUMP - anyone know when the final decisions will be made by?

I would guess late this week or early next week. That's when I heard last year, and Iowa usually sticks to their schedule.

Late this week?!! thats much sooner than i anticipated! so i guess they probably already have met and have a decision in hand?

I'm just going by last year, but yeah, I would guess that they are close to being done.

I called them - they are sending out mail decisions at the end of this week!!! :scared: Does anyone know what percent of their class is already filled now ? I wish theywould just email decisions!

OMG. THIS WEEK. I'm in Iowa City, so I'll let you guys know when I get my letter. I'm going to go vomit now...
