Thanks everyone...I appreciate that. Welp...I had an enlightening conversation today. Cant/won't devulge too many details due to confidentiality but I can say, I did not have a bad interview at ISU. Actually my interview evaluation was very good. My rejection was based on something else...unexpected, but I guess Im somewhat relieved it wasnt based on me putting my foot in my mouth.

Good to know that you did well in your interview, but I'm sorry that things didn't work out, for whatever reason it is. Thanks for keeping us updated and I hope you feel better in the coming days. *big hug*

Okay, had another conversation today....this I can give more details about. This is really stupid and I am only posting this information so that future ISUers will not have this happen to you.
After my rejection from UGA last year, during my file review they broke down my Cum. GPA, science GPA and last 45hr GPA. So, this year I used those GPA breakdowns to complete my VMCAS. Welp, ISU uses the VMCAS student reported GPA in determining early date (December) interviewees. So, based on that, I was offered an interview. Then after fall grades are received, ISU staff goes back and verifies your GPA and guess what? The way (and yes its a specific way) ISU calculates my CUM. GPA is was less that what UGA reported. ISU has a cut-off score, which varies each year based on the applicant base, that is used to decide, acceptances, waitlisters, and rejections. My GPA was 3pts below the cut off for waitlisters. And thats the stupid story.
🙁 O Well.

Moral/Word to the Wise: If you are considering ISU and you havent applied there before, I would contact student services and see if they can run through your transcripts and provide you with a projected GPA. Better to be realistic than spend $1000 on a pointless interview.

ISU staff was EXTREMELY nice and helpful. Which of course makes my rejection all the more devastating bc I just love the staff and I dont even go there. The really bad news is based on this info, it really wont do me any good to reapply next year bc as you all know to well, its really difficult to raise your cum. GPA.

Well, that's definitely not what I expected. I'm sorry that it came down to that, but thanks for telling us. Hopefully this didn't happen to other people! 🙁

LVT2DVM I would not let this year determine where you apply to nex year, as they told you the cut off varies each year. Best Wishes

I really think my mailbox has not had this much of an impact on my happiness since freshman year of college. Here's to another few days in the dark! Or at least in a fuzzy gray area...

True that! *sigh* Time to stalk the mailman again... 😎

Oh gosh, when someone posts up their rank, I'm going to freak unless I know what my rank is. XD Here's to hoping we all have low numbers!:xf:

Dun Dun Dun! They numbers are out.

I'm 58. Not really sure if that is decent or awful.

Seeing as how they typically get past #100 on the waitlist, I say that's pretty good!

Oh man, I guess I didn't do as well in my interview as I thought. I'm #103. Yikes...kinda pushing it there, but who knows.

Sooo... my mailman did not deliver today because there was snow in front of my mailbox... somebody shoot me.. this is rediculous!

Right now I am stalling at work because I am dreading going home and seeing what is in the mailbox. I am almost at the point where I don't even wanna see anything anymore!!!

Update ---- Well, I guess it wasn't too much to dread. I got my rejection letter from Wisconsin, but I got alternate #26 for Iowa, which I guess isn't too shabby. I am not jumping up and down yet though... the fat lady hasn't sung yet!

Home from working and just checked the mail, delighted to see an envelope with ISU stamped on it.

I present to you my subsequent emotions: 😀 :scared: 😱 😡 🙁

#106. Geez, can't a guy catch a break?!?!? I was expecting to at least be in the 50's! Gah! This year has an outlook similar to '08: CRAPTACULAR

I got #11. I am taking my name off the list though so everyone can move up one spot.

Yeah, that was kinda my reaction too. But...don't let it get you too bogged down. We may get accepted in the end, albeit in May or June, but it's better than nothing! We just need to hang in there. 😳

Thanks stang!😛

I got my admissions packet today. So, even though it still feels like I dreamed the email and the call from the dean and the card, it's all for reals and now they can't take it back! Especially not after they get my check...! I feel like such a dork saying that, but it's exactly what's been going through my head all day. And I know you guys understand 😉.

Good luck to everyone who was waitlisted--both on getting off this list (which is moving already! yay!) and for your other applications--and to those of you who have a difficult decision coming up. I hope I'll see some of you this fall!

Let's hope so! ISU is my top pick which serves to intensify the anxiety and stress of what I now call "The Wait".

I noticed U of I is your IS school and you recently interviewed there. I did my undergrad at UIUC and was rejected without an interview; from this I have come to the conclusion that I will never, ever truly understand how the adcom goes about selecting successful applicants. (just a little bonus rant -I'm feelin' the stress!)

dude where do you guys live?! i'm in orlando right now and usps.gov said it should take 3 days for my letter to arrive here from ames (yes, i am so nervous about not getting it that i created a deadline!). but i'm having my mail forwarded from a different address... so maybe it won't get here tomorrow like i expected? the suspense is killing me!

i'm limiting myself to two mailbox checks per day. and zero on sundays.

Yeah, just when I thought I had decided to go to Colorado State, the dean from Iowa calls me on Friday and asks me how the decision is going!! I forgot how nice they are up there . . . now again, I am reconsidering!

It's strange, I've heard of people getting rejected from their IS but accepted to an OOS school. It depends because each school does things a little differently. But...whatevs. You and I have to stick together, us being above the 100 mark and all.😀 I'll join you in "The Wait". hah

It's nervewracking because I should hear from U of I in less than a week on their final decision. I just...don't want to be crushed. 😳 But thankfully I was able to push the nagging feeling of my waitlist number out of my head during the interview, so hopefully my nerves didn't show. We'll see...

athane: Keep us posted on your decision, I hope you can find the school that is the best fit for you! 🙂 Good thing I don't have to make hard decisions like that. XD

#76 on the waitlist :lame:

I got my packet too!!! 😍 I can't wait to get my computer and start playing with it... they looked so cool at the interview session thing. OK, so I'm getting a little ahead of myself. 😀

I'm sending out good luck to all of you on the waitlist too!

So EqSci, does that mean you have made your final decision for Iowa? Or are you still waiting to hear back from other schools? (sorry if you had already stated and I missed it)

Not final yet (didn't send in my acceptance letter)... still waiting on Penn and Michigan. But Penn is basically out and Michigan is more $$, so I'm 99% sure I'll be headed to Iowa. Like I said, I'm getting a little ahead of myself. 😳 Eh, I'm excited!

Heads up to all - the ISU c/o 2013 group is up on facebook thanks to cuitlamiztli! 👍

Hey All!

I got my official waitlist letter and I am #7 (OOS). I also got a waitlist letter from Wisconsin saying that my 'rank is two' which I can't quite figure out if it means I'm literally #2, or if they have some other weird way of ranking.... Regardless, I am likely going to be withdrawing my Iowa application. GOOD LUCK AND HUGE CONGRATS to everyone!

Are you going to wait until after you get the official offer from Wisconsin before withdrawing your Iowa app? If not, let me highly highly highly recommend waiting. Just in case, who knows, better to be sure and wait until you have the offer in hand.:luck:

VAgirl-- I also received an acceptance at Penn about a week ago, so I have a definite yes for next year no matter what happens with Wisconsin-- I kinda figured now that I know I have one acceptance and one high waitlist spot both at schools I'm totally in love with, I would let the ISU waitlist move a little...sorry I guess I forgot to post that part! I think your advice is totally solid, though, and appreciate it 🙂

Awesome. Congrats on all the good news! 🙂

Ya, I emailed Brenda.. Shes awesome.. She sent me my letter as an attachment.. and after spending 20 minutes figuring out how the heck to open the attachment I finally figured out my number.

61!

I guess thats good. However, is anyone concerned that with the new hospital they built they wont go through the alternate list quite as quickly? Sorry to be Debbie Downer, but I dont wanna get my hopes up. Whats everyone elses opinion on this?

I'm not trying to get too excited yet either, but I don't think the new hospital would have such a drastic effect. It may influence some students, but I feel the wait list will move as it has in the past.

well. . . .i have an interview at my instate in 1.5 weeks. so depending on how much i like the school and how the interview goes, i might be withdrawing my acceptance as well.

i did love iowa. . . .but money is an issue, as always. . .
if there are any adcoms out there. . . .why don't you shoot a scholarship my way 😉

i'll let you guys know as soon as i make a decision. 😳

Has everyone gotten their waitlist letter already? Maybe mine got lost in the mail, too?
I'll wait one more day before I email brenda....

...and I agree with willbeavet on the new hospital affecting the waitlist. I feel like peoples' priorities in choosing which school to attend are more along the lines of proximity to family, strength of chosen program, size of the city, etc. more than newness of the facilities. I could be wrong...

Congrats to everyone on/off the waitlist and good luck!

I hope you guys are right.. Personally the new hospital isnt much of a deciding factor (more of a "they let me in" thing) but I didnt know if some people might be awestruck by the pretty new hospital.. if you catch my drift..

I don't think that will really influence people too much. To get an idea, there are two of us that are going to Iowa from SDN, and check out the interview thread! Many, many more than that applied. I would guess they'll go through their waitlist as quickly as any other year.

But the new hospital is AWESOME. 😀

Bleh... wish we didn't have to wait so long to hear back about the alternates though. They said the instate alternates might hear back before April 15th, but that they don't notify OOS until at least a week afterwards. It's so hard to plan anything without knowing!!! My patience keeps being tested to the extreme. hah

Vista: Congrats! That's a good rank in my eyes. XD

Welp, my status page now says: ALTERNATE.

'Tis "official"! Hah.

Well,

Sadly I will be opening up a spot on the list as I am writing my letter declining my acceptance at Iowa State. I am rooting for you guys, this has been a very tough decision for me since I REALLY was impressed with Iowa and what they have done, especially in public health. Good luck you you guys!

Thanks for letting us know, athane. I wish I could have met you, too bad you interviewed on Sunday and not Saturday. You will do great things at CSU, if that is your final decision. Good luck with everything and thanks for getting us who are on the waitlist one step closer. *hugs*

Aw, I'm honestly sad to hear that, athane. You'll do great anywhere, but your enthusiasm for ISU really stuck with me. Good luck.

And I guess it's my turn to finally update... I'm number 85 on the alternate list (I still haven't gotten my letter, but I emailed Brenda). This is kind of pathetic, but it makes me happy to see the word "alternate" on the status page. Of course I'd be happier if it said "admit," but then it would just be too easy, wouldn't it?

Maybe this way we'll appreciate it more if we make it off the list.

Hi everyone, I've been lurking for a while and I think I should share my good news: I was put on the alternate list mid-Jan with everyone else and then accepted 5 days later, so it looks like the list is moving already! I never got a rank... I think they accepted me the day before they sent them out. I'm still on 2 other alternate lists, but there is a good chance I'll attend ISU. good luck to everyone!

ps - turkeytalk - I think I was your ride from the airport on interview day!

Hello there...I figured you'd all be happy to hear this. I am opening up a spot for you all on the alternate list 🙂 I was pretty low on it, so that should move everyone through a bit quicker. Goodluck to all you future vets! I wish you the best.

Where you heading mooturkey?? Good luck Iowa waiters 🙂

Yeah, that was me! I really can't thank you enough for that!! Definitely going to find a way to pay it forward someday... 😛

Congrats on your admission!! I'm close to the end of the list, so if I do get in, I probably won't hear until May or later. But maybe we'll be classmates!

I am withdrawing my application and declining my spot in the class. I hope one of you gets a call tonight about getting accepted!!!

:luck:GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE!!!!

Hey everyone..
My waitlist letter got lost in the mail so Brenda sent me the letter over email. It seems from the letter that more than just the one piece of paper came with it. What did all you alternate people get with your ranking letter? Seems like there is a form Im supposed to fill out to keep my name on the list. Brenda send she would snail mail me another copy of the letter but I have a feeling she forgot...
