for naming cycloalkanes do we only pay attention to the letter b or p in isobutyl, isopropyl, sec butyl, tertbutyl, but not the letters iso sec or tert? for alphabetical order
Thanks

cyclopropyl and isopropyl do not have hyphens, so they are alphabetized using "c" and "i". sec-butyl and tert-butyl are hyphenated, so we alphabetize them by the letter "b". That's from Chad's notes, but I'm not sure if he gave a distinction between straight chain and rings with this naming.

sec, tert, di, tri tetra, etc.....is NOT alphabetized........ISO is alphabetized. This isobutyl...pay attention to the i " i ".

For example....1-sec-butyl-3 isopropylcycloheptane.

Hope this helps.
