Here's just a random question I would like to ask- how is your IQ related to your Dat score? I would love to see people's comparisons between the two. I haven't taken the DAT yet but the practice tests I have taken put me around a 21-22 while just some simple and free iq tests put me around around the 120-123 iq range. How does everyone else's stats compare?

GATE's iq test back in the day put me around 137 and I got a 22 AA. IMO, the DAT doesn't really test for iq but more of a person's work ethic and drive. If you really want to do well, all you need to do is put in the time and effort.

I am well aware of work ethic is a HUGE factor for success in dental school. But I am wanting to pose the question by just isolating these two values only and making everything that factors in negligible.

You can be smart and not study for the DAT and get a 17, or a big dummy and get a 27. DAT is about how hard you study, if you have a high IQ and study hard, you will probably get a higher score than others but you still have to put in the time.

I think IQ = DAT.

people with stellar IQ will 99% get 20+ on DATs on all sections. based on experiece

it varies inversely with IQ and squarely with EQ

145 --> 22 AA (guess i'm not studying hard enough then lol)

I recently took an IQ test a few weeks ago while my insomnia was keeping me up at 3am and I scored a 117. It was kinda longer than I thought it would have been and I had to force myself to stay awake for the last half of it. I got a 24AA/25TS/24PA.

Though I don't think IQ matters so much for the DAT. Any idiot with a sub-100 IQ can do well on this test if they're disciplined enough to study, because the DAT is largely testing you on what you have memorized.

Am I the only one here Who never took IQ Test ?

I've never taken it. I didn't even speak English back when they administered those tests in middle school and high school lol.

From a theoretical point of view I'd say that IQ determines potential DAT score. But in order to reach your potential DAT score you need lots of preparation which means that without preparation people with lower IQ may have a higher actual DAT score.

Pure numbers stand point:
145 IQ
20/20/21 DAT scores

As for the rest of the information, this was the second attempt at the DAT for me. The first time was before I took any Ochem at all; which due to me getting a 15 on Ochem on the first attempt, I had to retake it. The amount of studying for this attempt was as follows:
I started studying for the DAT three weeks prior to taking it, I didn't study/practice much for the PAT (either time), I didn't study Ochem at all the second time, nor did I study for Reading comprehension either time. For the second attempt I was too uncertain about the bio and gen chem sections because I hadn't taken Bio 102 (which has a ton of content for the DAT) and it had been 4 years since I took the first half of gen chem. I only studied the math section for a day or two each time I took it.

For the record, I don't think these two measurements are necessarily correlated. I think there are far too many other variables involved. Also, if you're trying to come up with a test statistic on this, then the vary method of gaining your data is flawed. It's quite possible that some individuals will be more inclined to post their stats then others (regardless of the anonymity of the internet); thus leading to a bias within the dataset. Sorry, I just finished a biometry class so stats is on the brain.

I have a 133 IQ. The only reason I know this is because when I was younger I ended up seeing a psychiatrist about some mental stuff and an IQ test was part of it, turns out I have ADHD. I'm taking the DAT in a couple weeks so i'll let you know 😛 Set up a graph and let's see the correlation!

I appreciate you comment on this thread. And for the record, I wouldn't even dream to get legitimate statistics based on a anonymous avitar- results would be skewed and not a reliable source. I am merely creating conversation on the effect one has on the other i.e. IQ on DAT. Again I appreciate your worry as if I was doing this to collect results. I love corrective critics and based on your knowledge base of this "poll", you were just watching out for my back. Thanks🙂

I have not either. It wasn't offered to me, and I honestly don't know that I would take it even if it was offered. I don't see a point.

you might as well ask us hows our cooking style match up with DAT taking skills (i.e how well does my food taste vs how well I score on DAT).

DAT is a smart-persons test, but its also a preparation exam. How well you study(and how lucky you are with a version you get) are bigger indicators for success.
