Given the still rising cost of tuition, would anyone consider a job for $38 an hour? Here in the Madison, WI area there is quite a bit of saturation developing which is evident in this job posting: http://careers.pswi.org/c/job.cfm?site_id=395&jb=15249820

In the Southern, WI/Northern, IL area we went from only one school in WI and only a couple in the Chicagoland area to somewhere around 6 or 7 schools within a 75 mile radius of the stateline area - due in part to people like me picking pharmacy as a career in 2001 only to graduate to a completely different landscape 8 years later.

This is the store's actual name, and "25 to 30 hour per week commitment"? That's an odd way to put it, but it also appears to be somewhat unconventional, which does not mean they aren't legitimate.

And this IS Madison, which is a little universe unto itself.

Take the job!!! If you don't the new graduates from the new pharmacy schools will get it.

So, those 150 open pharmacist shifts for this current pay period for the Milwaukee market are a figment of my imagination? lol We need more pharmacists. Scheduler doesn't even try to get mids covered. That salary is not normal for the area.

$38 off the books CASH = YES. Do it.

$38 on the books TAXED = HELLLLLLLL NO!

This is crazy to me. To add a little perspective - $38/hr is what I earned as a staff clinical pharmacist in an academic hospital in 2001.

Obviously, this was before the tuition bubble and waves of new grads...

The only problem with working off the books is what happens when there is a mistake? Are you a W-2 or 1099? Under whose liability policy are you? The ambiguous nature of your status gives the insurance company an out in the fine print.

Definitely not worth it.. Six years of schooling to make $38 an hour. I made $30 working as a Mason.

Link, please? Where did you see that, Indeed.com?

I can't show you that because it was on Walgreens Market Scheduling for Milwaukee market. That was at the beginning of the pay period and now, it is almost over. I work for Walgreens in Milwaukee, and so, I should know the number of open shifts. Fortunately, for the up coming pay period, things look a little better. There are only 80 open shifts. 😍

In the e-mails our scheduler sends out, she has said she won't bother with the mids anymore because of the number of open shifts. It is most more important to get the required shifts covered.

When this happened last year, the supervisors went down to Illinois and hired a number of pharmacists there. I believe they hired about 8.

Wow, how many Walgreens stores are there in Milwaukee, and why can't they get people to staff them?

They probably just have a bad scheduler.

It's been like that on and off for a while, now. This all started after they fired a bunch of our per diems in Spring 2012. In Milwaukee market, there are about 110 stores. Our scheduler does the best job she can do.

We also get many e-mails from our neighboring markets, Madison and Green Bay, for shifts.

5-10 years from now... "I get paid $6.50 an hour to do relief work in an area near 16 pharmacy schools."
:boom:

The rate of new graduates and the decrease in the expansion of the major chains has me kind of freaked out right now...

But man, what a sweet gig BenJammin has right now... 👍👍

That's the normal rate CVS, WAG, and RAD pays if you are an rx manager in California. Staff ~60-62...
