Hello, i am a recent transfer student graduate from Cornell, who used to be premed early in my college career which started at NYU.
After a hell of a time with Orgo which i dropped (no grade retained only a w)..

I stopped my premed route after sophmore year and transferred to Cornell University studying business administration.

I graduated last year in 2003. My Premed average was around a 3.1 at NYU 2 years and my overall Cornell 2 years GPA was a 2.6 , pretty crappy i know. I haven't taken my MCAT's yet and also never finished Orgo or physics. I only finished Bio and chem .. B's in both.

I am wondering: if I consider seriously applying to med school again .. would I need to simply take courses at a local college and enroll in physics and orgo.

or would i need to enroll in a a posbacc program to fulfill the premed course requirements and do it all over again?

Ya know.. I'm in a similar situation and I decided to do a post-bac as the classes that I had taken when I was a premed were taken over 5 years ago and I knew that I would need them for the MCAT. In addition I had only taken 1 quarter of physics and a year of both biology and chemistry before I switched my major. I ended up finishing with a psychology degree and a not so stellar GPA. I decided to do a post-bac and re-take everything to not only raise my science GPA but to also refresh my memory of the courses I took over 5 years ago. I can't tell you if this was the best thing to do, but for me it worked out great because I did much better in the science courses I re-took, I'll be done with O-Chem this summer and I'll be taking the MCAT in April 05'....

I say, if it has been awhile since you took those science classes...do a post-bac and take everything again and make sure to kick butt 🙂

Good luck :luck:

Two things you need to know:

1) MCAT's is not a word. One test = singular. You take the MCAT.
2) Yes, you need to do a postbac unless you go to the Caribbean or save a golden baby from a river of molten lava.

I don't agree with the above poster. I too have a similiar GPA (2.5,will be around 2.86 when I graduate). I have contacted 4 schools and ALL four said a post bacc. will help improve the GPA, but if it has been awhile (for me 7ish years) than to take a few high up classes that are in the sciences to show them you can do the work and that is all that is needed. The one guy said not to spend all that money just to fill the next blank on the grades that AMCAS present. My first choice school felt very confident for me in (with explanation of what went wrong) me having a good shot at getting in with my now grades standing at a 3.7GPA since I came back to college. I have a year left and I'm finishing up my BA and taken higher up sciences courses. Just make sure to have a meeting with the Dean and he will give you his insights on what he feels would be best. All the Dean's I have talked with have all been very informative and thank goodness I asked because I would have taken a whole post bacc. program and spent alot more money trying to get into a school. I know of people that have gotten in that were not minority based on their grade trends as well with good explanations of the mess ups. GOOD LUCK!

Anyone already graduated and in a similar situation as me? I would appreciate your feedback.

Also would you know if any post baccs are P/T in the evening in NYC?

you should check out the post-bacc forum. Also there is a thread there labelled "low GPA thread" or something to that effect. You can read what a lot of those people did to get into medical school

i'd recommend the post bacc.
but i am not sure of any that are in the ny area.
