As title states... Is acknowledging that you are writing a personal statement for medical school or the admissions commitee a "no-no"?

e.g. Here I am writing my personal statment for medical school, I blah blah..
or What makes me a unique applicant? etc

Thanks

It's not really a no-no... but honestly, that would be a really terrible way to start your personal statement. It's quite reminiscent of the way we all answered homework questions in middle school

ha ha thanks for your thoughts and excuse my lame-o examples

I second this opinion!👍

Definitely something you don't want to do. I would throw such a personal statement into the trash after reading the first line.

Don't start it with a quote either, especially not from that urine-drinking idiot Ghandi.

Here's a few ideas to get you started:

Shameless plug above!

Seriously, that's a sleeper. If you apply to a school that receives more than 4,000 applications per year, yours won't make it past the first paragraph.

Less shameless plug below.

Consider your audience. They know what you're trying to get across. Also, having to write those statements is simply poor composition technique.

Not really a no-no. It's a bit cliché, though.
Agreed. It's like starting out a cover letter writing, "Here I sit writing my cover letter..." Very bad.

Agreed, that opening would just be a poor choice stylistically... perhaps you could try to hook your reader with your opening by providing a unique vignette or thought... go through your statement describing why you and medicine are a great fit ... and then perhaps revisit the opening thought to tie it down with thematic unity.
