Is applying early August considered too late?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
August is too late and the likelihood of pre-Dec interviews goes down significantly. That said, you can still apply and be accepted (I applied at the end of August and got only 2 pre-Dec interviews, one of which (UCLA) was an acceptance on Dec 1st 🙂 ) I don't think this would have been the case without my stats though, so just be careful & good luck!

Like the title says, Is applying early August considered too late? Would it significantly affect chances of getting interviews? Should I just wait till next year to apply if I can only apply early August?
Applying in August is late, but if you have a solid application, you should still get many post-december interviews and get into a few schools. Dont wait until next year if you can handle your apps this year.

I had students who applied in late August and September and they all got accepted. It really depends on your profile. Also, you need to be okay with not getting a pre-december interview. (You may still get it, but chances are low)

If I apply now and update my DAT (8/6) score through fax or email as soon as I finish it, would it still be considered late? I really want to get into my state school and its deadline is end of September.

What's your state school and how competitive is the rest of your application?

Like Artist2022 mentioned, August is on the later end of the spectrum, but with a strong application, you should be able to get interviews. Then, it's up to your interviewing ability!

Your application would be incomplete until your scores are verified (2-3 weeks) and not all schools will accept your unofficial score report. You can still definitely be accepted to your state school, but it does depend heavily on what your stats are/what you get on your DAT. If you get a 19, chances are extremely low because you applied so late. If you get a 28, chances are great! So it all depends. Just focus on doing well on the DAT because that's going to be what really decides your fate. Good luck!

Thank you for replies! I have 3.7 GPA with great leadership positions and shadowing/volunteering hours. Do you think I should take a risk and just apply without knowing my DAT score? I am thinking of taking a gap year if applying late decreases my chances of getting into my state school (UF) significantly.

Apply now even w/o your score. If you're really so nervous that you are considering skipping this cycle, Only apply to your state school and schools that offer in-state tuition after 1 year.
