Hi everyone
I understand that when applying for dental schools, the earlier the better. But I have a situation. I had my undergraduate 8 years ago (gpa 3.8) but have been out of school for 8 years. I have talked to the Dean of admission of some dental schools and they all suggested me to go back to school full time and take some upper division bio courses. I am doing exactly that this semester and also will be doing another year of graduate post-bacc next year. The Dean of admission suggested that I can apply this cycle IF I can make all As this semester (which I currently have) and have a solid DAT score. (around 22+). Otherwise, I should be applying next year when I finish my post-bacc. So my DAT date is scheduled July 15. I know that one can submit application to AADAS before having the DAT score. However, I really want to wait for my DAT score before applying because then I won't waste money if I got lower than 22+. I know that I only got a shot this cycle if I make at least a 22. So my question is do you think submitting application mid July would be too late? Should I take a chance and submit application in June 1st? Anyone here has applied mid July and still got interviews/acceptance...? Thanks everyone.

You have a shot if you get a 20. I would go ahead and apply, the worst thing that would happen would be that you would have to apply again the next year, which you would do anyway. I think you would have a shot no matter what so I would apply right away and your application should be processed by the time you take the DAT.

thanks for replying, well the worst thing would be me out a couple of thousand bucks and not able to make it to dental school. My financial situation right now doesn't allow me to waste couple of thousand dollars ( I have paid out of my pocket for this Spring semester, I have a sick dad to take care for, a mortgage to pay, and a debt of 30k next year for the post-bacc program). I could only afford to apply if I make really a decent DAT knowing I got a good shot. I guess my question is is there anyone here who start submitting their AADAS in mid July and got interviews/acceptance?

I submitted at the end of July and didn't take my DAT until the end of August. I received 4 interviews, three wait lists and one acceptance. I also applied to 21 schools...

Mid-July isn't even remotely late. You're more than fine.

You will be fine. That's like 6th/7th batch... Still pretty early.

I applied to 16 schools mid-October with a 3.5/19 and received 5 interviews (4 pre-December 1st)

The earlier the better.

My files were completed towards the end of July. 4 invites, attended 3 and accepted at 3. BUT, the dates of my invites were set in October and Nov, so that tells me I could have gotten earlier dates had I submitted everything earlier, or possibly another invite or so. Who knows. Try not to push your luck. Send it all in ASAP.

Applying mid July will be no problem
With a 3.8 gpa. Submitting after August for any stats gets a bit riskier. So long as you submit your primary app first pre-dats, many school will even keep a
Tab on you and wait for scores as one component (strong gpa) is already in.

I know people who applied with a 21 in October and still got in. You will be fine.

Yea, but what was your DAT score/GPA?
