i plan on submitting on august first -ish. i know that DO works on rolling admission but i heard that for some reason its not as strict, i was wonderign if august will seriously hinder my chances?

Also i have a 3.96 GPA and a 509 Mcat which on one hand i think is too low for USMD but too high for schools like LECOM (which i really wanna get accepted to). they might think im applying as a back up or something. do u guys think i have good chances of making it to lecom? i can provide my ECs too:



chem lab research volunteer;

hospice volunteer

hospital patient visiting at surgery clinic

blood pressure taker volunteer

hotline crisi texter

coach for specail olympics volunteer

food bank volunteer

soup kitchen voluteer

math tutor

VP at mental health club

student athlete mentor

job (pretty boring stuff just reading/sifting through paper)

volunteer for advocacy group for mental health (writing op eds and what not)

hobby; weight lifting

shadowing 2 diff specialies

*on average for each activity, it ranges from 100-200 hrs

Where is your state of residence ? August is not late for DO school applications. Even October is not late.

If you are concerned about DO schools being suspicious about applying to them as backup, consider what you might do to allay their concerns. Why DO? Why their school? Only apply to DO schools? Have a family member or personal physician who is a DO? Some things to consider. Good luck and best wishes!

We in the DO world already know that 95% of applicants apply to MD first, or MD+DO. We don't take it personally.

In no Universe is a 509 MCAT score too high for any DO school. My school gets applicants from the Ivies with > 90th%ile scores. So stop thinking like that. And you need more DO schools on your list than LECOM. Beggars can't choosy.

Well, if you are targeting a school, you need to let them know. Just saying you are my top choice may not convince them. They might want to see some onterest in Osteopathic medicine. Btw, lots of 509+ at my school too. You might re consider the 3 yr pathway as there is always the possibility you might want to change specialties down the road.

As I said before, Beggars can't be choosy. You need to have deals schools on your list. And dos are not limited to just family medicine.

Charting Outcomes 2022, it comes out every 2 yrs, shows 66% of DO seniors matched anesthesia. No word on 2023. So 2 out of 3 matched. It will get worse, but not impossible. Just keep an eye on the match game and play well. Target programs you would be competitive at. Consider it like getting g elected and have all the boxes checked. Check out several uni affiliate community programs, some are quite good. Putting together a competitive app is entirely up to you. All the best.

Plenty of DO schools have avg MCAT of 507/508 so you’re really not that much above. You have a lot of volunteer jobs which is good but doesn’t seem like a lot of actual clinical experience. You can certainly apply to MD schools with your stats though, just be aware of the schools you pick based on avg mcat.

fy, 90% of teh schools i contacted said they would consider crisis hotline as clinical

Also dr grey said to put it as clinical

Many ppl on sdn disagree tho, u might be one of them idk i could be wrong

Also i am canadian, it is impossible to find clincal activities. Paid clinical activities in canada only exist in dreams. volunteer is very hard to come buy.

509 isn’t a score where DO programs think you are applying purely as backup and will screen you out. 515 sure, 509 no. I am way dated on scores (used old test for my application) but last time I looked at premed forums the Touro CA and others like azcom were 507 avg

Do you see what doctors do? How is a healthcare team involved? Do you enter information into an EHR?

These are simple questions where crisis text lines are not pointing towards a bona-fide clinical experience. It doesn't make the lists for PCE or HCE for physician assistant admissions (though someone correct me if that had changed).
