August is not too late, but would any schools even look at your application before it's complete?

You'll be fine. I applied sometime in August as well, I think mid Aug and gotten in to my top school and other schools and turned down several interviews.

thats great to hear i feel much better now! thanks!!

With rolling admissions, January is not too late to apply at most schools. Many of them interview all the way until April. Contrary to what you may hear, most schools save spots for good applicants until late in the game. They don't want to give them all away just in case better applicants come along.

That said, the earlier the better is generally a good rule, especially if your application is lacking in any area.

i've NEVER heard of someone waiting till january to apply and actually getting in

I turned in all my secondaries in January.

I turned in all my secondaries in January.

maybe I'm just thinking with an MD mindset, I'm still learning when it comes to the DO process. I'm applying early august and that's considered late for MD

did mean you are submitting your aacomas on aug 1st?

Just do it as soon as you can. I wouldn't wait until December or January though. Too risky, and there might be lost opportunities. And you don't wanna be interviewing in March, when the schools already a lot of people that got accepted or waitlisted.

It's always good to be the early bird. Unless there are special circumstances that you can't apply until really late. It's just a bad idea to wait until then.

turned in my MD secondaries in December/early Jan, and was accepted

But earlier is better, buccsmf's got that right 👍 TO the OP: you'll be fine

Earlier is always better, however, I turned in my secondary in Nov or Dec and interviewed in Feb. I got my acceptance a week later (LMU-DCOM is good that way 😉).

I am taking my MCAT on July 17th and I graduate in December. Obviously I do not want to wait until December, but my question is will I be penalized if I apply in August with no degree? Also, I am considering applying to about 15 schools, is that to many? Does that even matter, I have been told that the more schools the better but is that true?

I sent my AMCAS/AACOMAS in the middle of August, got most of my secondaries done by end of september/early oct, and was accepted to DO school and waitlisted at an MD school. I applied to 10 MD and 6 DO, so IMO 15 is not too much. Some of my friends applied to like 22 or 23 schools, which is a little over the top but if you have the money to pay for app fees than you should apply to as many as you'd like 🙂

I applied in the fall of 2008 and was accepted in like November. I didn't get my degree til June of 2009 (about 10 days ago lol). So no, you will not be penalized as long as you have your degree and finish all required pre-reqs before you matriculate.
