Is Dr. Najeeb a decent substitute for first year lectures?

Title says it all. It's my understanding that he teaches very well and his lectures build a solid foundation in the basic sciences and physiology. In your experience, how comprehensive are his lectures?

I would at the very least read the lecture notes/PPT for EVERY lecture you receive in med school, including M1 year. Particularly for first year, there's gunna be a ton of stuff not relevant to step 1 that is VERY relevant the exams you have to pass first. There are a lot of topics during preclinicals (e.g. pretty much everything in biochem, HEENT/brainstem anatomy, parasitology) which may get a single paragraph in a review text but have an entire exam dedicated to each in M1/M2 year. Gotta stay on top of lecture notes so you don't get blindsided...

I used him for neuro and while his lectures are not the most time-efficient ways of learning concepts, if you draw along with him, they stick very well. Definitely adequate for most stuff but you'll have to add in the minutiae that your prof likes for whatever subject.

It was when I was an M1. Dr Najeeb will help you really understand as opposed to memorize some garbage.

najeeb teaches you like you are the dumbest person in the world . and starts with the building blocks, ultimately building a taj mahal.
The problem with najeeb, is m1 is fast and furious and there isnt enough time in the day, and at the end of the day it is a passive way to learn.IMO, Time is better off spent becoming a space monkey and bashing the space bar until you have burned zanki into your retina and RPE.

Another strategy would be to use boards and beyond+lightyear from day one of school.

Depends how tough your school is.

My school has a rigorous curriculum, and when I hear people say they could pass just with board prep materials,,, well hah.

I'd spend the first semester listening to lectures, studying from those notes, and making sure you keep your head above water. If Fall semester is easy for you, well then you can try other options to get ready for boards

i dont havea good answer for that. Najeeb and all the other stuff are meant for video viewing. I dont have a lot of experience listening to them while driving.

Honestly, Dr. Najeeb is REALLY good. When I first started M1, I was a little off-put by the length of his videos, constant repetition, and thick accent (ignorant, I know. Speaking from a context of being able to understand him while zoning out, multitasking, etc.)

However, one day I just decided to sit down and watch him. He's really, really good. He'll incorporate all relevant physiology, path, pharm, etc.

Alright, I'll get a feel for things during my first block and reassess. I just couldn't pass up those Najeeb lectures. Lifetime access for only $10! I believe that this will be the price for the foreseeable future so I highly encourage other incoming MS1 (MS0??) to get in on it too.

I'm at the end of my first year, all physiology by organ system. I love Najeeb. It can't be your only resource; not every system is covered as well (as in, low quantity of material, the quality of the content is always superb), while other systems just have too much content to spend that much time watching videos. But it did replace a lot of my class lectures. The way he breaks everything down and then brings it together makes even the more complicated stuff seem incredibly simple. His lectures on neuro and renal in particular were huge for me. For $10, it's the best money I spent this year.

We have just an organ systems curriculum (heart, neuro, etc.). I didn't use Najeeb as a primary resource. Pathoma and BaB were my primary resources. Najeeb was good for understanding things in full detail. I just watched his stuff whenever I wanted to unleash the big guns.
