I was just wondering if Anesth is an easy field to learn ? Meaning is there a lot of reading and/or hands-on practicing during your off time?

No. It is a lifelong endeavor of learning, modifying and refining your techniques to become the best anesthesiologist possible. Medicine is a constantly evolving field requiring continuous education/modification of your knowledge and skills. This is exactly why I chose medicine in general and anesthesia in particular. Sure there are some dinosaurs out there who do every case the same way, but the thing about dinosaurs is that they become extinct........

Peace

Anesthesia is easy to learn but you have to be willing to learn it. pay attention to details (all of them) think 2 steps ahead, I think you can master it in 3 years if you have good teachers, good cases and you take a lot of call during your residency you can see everything

Don't they call these guys CRNA's? Doing ever case the same way that is.

Hey....I try to do all my cases the same way....One big syringe of the white stuff, one small syringe....tube in the upper hole....vent on...2 clicks and the vaporizer....keep blood pressure up...

Is there anything else???

just make sure you get the tube in the hole.. thats the essence of anesthesiia every other task pales in comparison to this task...... and of course at least one iv.....

I prefer to refer to myself as a young buck as opposed to a dinosaur. BTW...CRNA's are a long ways from becoming extinct.....get used to the idea.

If that one amusing comment hadn't been made, this thread could have really turned into an informative exchange ...
