Hello everyone,
My question is getting an MBA a good idea. I didn't match this year, so I'm gonna have to try again. I applied pmr, but with a red flag (failed ck once). I want to broaden my CV, so I was thinking of doing an MBA, while working for a local research institute in my home town. I was originally looking for an MPH, but the university in my town doesn't have a program, but they do have a one year online MBA program.

TLDR: MBA look good on a CV?

Agreed.

A private practice might care about an MBA, if you were looking to be the group's treasurer or president, for example. A residency program could not care less. Right now, you'll never get to experience the former without the latter, so focus on something else.

MBAs generally aren't worth the paper they're printed on for the most part, unless you have real world work experience to build on and establish a network of useful contacts from a reputable institution.

with that said, they can be a useful long-term credential to expand opportunities 10-15yrs down the road in your career, as long as you have the personality, leadership skills and strategic vision to convince people you should be the one in charge.

if you're doing it to pad a residency app, how well it's received by programs will largely depend on how well you can spin its usefulness. unless you really need research experience for your CV i would consider the MBA + some ongoing clinical experience so all those CS skills you paid $2000 for don't wither away

I would actually say getting an MBA is an awesome idea. But they're right in that you do have to spin it well during the interviews and actually demonstrate that you'll use to improve the healthcare system. For me I'd say MBA played a significant role in matching where I wanted to go to .
