I was ambushed by a pre-med while studying in the library today and he said I should start studying for the MCAT and Step 1 now... even though I've only taken bio 1 so far.

When I mentioned this to him he said it doesn't matter and that I'd likely score higher on both exams if I put off my prereqs for fall and instead enrolled in an MCAT prep course. I told him between working full time (fri-sun till Dec 12hr shifts) and class (mon-thu probably till the end of time 🙁, plus studying after) I didn't see how I had time or money. Already struggling to fit in shadowing and volunteering as it is.

He's being super neurotic right?

EDIT: Alright, I promise to use more common sense (and the search bar) and not waste your time. Back to studying 😉

Yup. Super neurotic or he's just messing with you. Take the MCAT when you're ready. Its NOT something you want to rush or take unprepared.

You think he was paid to solicit for an MCAT prep course? Seems odd to approach a random stranger and tell them to enroll in a class. If he's paid on commission, I would call him ambitious more so than neurotic.

I mean, unless you want to match primary care, he has a point....

I'm taking my Step 1 exam the week before I start med school because I want to match ortho and figured that I would do better without the stress of med school distracting me.

You're either joking or you need to be less gullible

Not joking but I imagine I'd benefit from being a little less gullible.

he's in a manic state if he assumes you should take mcat course before the actual prereqs. And not only that but also to study for Step 1, assuming you will even comprehend the high yield material on there. FYI, the prep classes don't benefit you in the sense of making up for content. They only detail strategies which can either seem BS or adoptable for you.

question is: How newbish does he really think you are?

Nope. I asked him that because I was suspicious. And it wasn't completely random. He saw my books all over the table and asked me what I was studying and then it kind of took off from there.

Lol I literally said the exact same thing. I asked, how is MCAT prep supposed to benefit me if I haven't even learned the content yet? Isn't prep for review? Soo yeah I answered my own question, haha, he's definitely being neurotic.

ugh hate it when people I knew back whenever suddenly find you when you're studying for mcat. Like ecsqueezeme. #sorry your avatar name is my favorite catchphrase that I never use tho.

If you have to ask.....yes

He was actively trying to sabotage you. Avoid talking to him in the future.

1) Find a copy of First-Aid for USMLE Step I,
2) Go find that pre-med,
3) Smack in the head with it.

He's a ****ing ***** and only this will help him.

He actually ended up giving me his number (baited me with a potential shadowing opportunity :/) so this might be possible, lol!

fukken lol. You've landed a shadowing opportunity alright...🤣

I for one would like to meet this gunner.

Lol! Only if you don't mind wasting 30min of your time while he tries to show the 5 mcat books he carries with him AT ALL TIMES.
