If I have not so stellar numbers (F's, D's but all A's recently) is it a waste of time/money to apply to all 20 of the schools?

Do some schools only take out of staters if they have stellar numbers (which I don't have) ?

I'm from Cali... 1st choice COMP, 2nd TOURO, ...

Thanks~

It's hard to say without your GPA/MCAT. How are your ECs? How are your recs? What about your personal statement? What's your GPA trend like?

These are all factors to be considered...so none of us can really say. I would eliminate schools that don't take out-of-state residents (unelss they're in your state).

I don't think it's a waste and what do you have to lose. This is especially true if your stats are less than average. Apply to all of them and even some Caribbean schools to increase your chances of getting in somewhere.

My plans exactly... 🙂

For the record, I have really poor grades from 7-10 years ago and I just calculcated my GPA. Counting retakes (both grades), it's at 2.9 cum and 3.0 sci but that includes fails, d's, etc.

In the past three years, I have a cumulative of 3.96 with A's in all prereqs except Physics 1 (B) but my cumulative is still down the drain. We'll see what happens. Hoping for somewhat of an OK MCAT even though my last practice test was a disaster...

Thanks!

Definately don't give up on your MCAT...I did the same thing, and did fine on the actual day. If all esle fails, you can retake in August if need be.

Remember, AACOMAS only counts the most recent grade, so it may be quite higher. Great job with the recent GPA trend though, that should definitely count for something. Be sure and distance yourself from those grades in your PS and interviews. Show that you're a new person.

If everything thing goes well on the MCAT I don't see why you couldn't be a decently competitive applicants. 7+ yrs ago is a long time. If you were to get a 28+ MCAT you should defently be looking very good.

Thank you very much for your giving me hope. Entering these grades into AACOMAS really gets you down even though they're old. I appreciate it. Hopefully adcoms will indeed understand they're old and are not representative of the person I am today. It's all up in the air for the week until MCAT results arrive... :luck: :luck:

You will have to keep me posted with your progress.

*13 years* ago when I first started college I walked away with a 1.12 GPA (lol). Now that I am back in school at the age of 30 I have excellent grades and have brought my GPA up to a 3.2, which I know is not impressive but to go from a 1.12 to a 3.2 is pretty good.

I plan to take the next 3 years to finish my Bio degree and am taking a lot of classes that I like and that will add even more A's to my transcript (Womens History, Art, etc) and I should apply with a 3.6GPAcum, and if they don't look at the grades from 13 years ago it should be higher than that, but I just worry a lot about it 🙁

Good luck!!

Marilyn

If your poor grades are from 7 years ago then I would not worry about it. With your significantly higher GPA now, the Admissions people will see that it was obviously a lack of effort 7 years back and your are a bright individual, assuming your personal statements are coherent and in this world. Then as long as your MCAT is decent and the Admissions people think your a likable person, your in.

I'll keep you posted... feel free to PM me later to follow up. Good luck on your classes.

P.S. I really appreciate the positive comments on this thread. I really needed it. 🙂

You can always retake it in August and see what happens. I'm willing to bet that AdComs are going to look favorably on your recent grades. Good luck!
