In one of my med school interviews..I was pretty much sold.

I want to send a letter of interest to the dean, but my decision has not been made yet (obviously it's before Oct 15th).

Is this advisable or should I wait until my decision has been made?

I can't see it hurting you so why not?

I mean, they aren't going to say "Hey, this guy is really interested in our school.. we should reject him because of that." It's more likely a non-factor but if it can't hurt, why not??

If you have something substantive to say about the school, and you are willing to use letter of intent type language, I'd say go for it.

Well I thought it'd be received as "pushy" to send a letter of interest even before the decision is made....

I think that you should wait until you have something tangible to actually update the school. If the new year rolls around and you don't have a decision, when you send in your transcripts from the fall semester you can also add a paragraph that details how much you love the school, and it would be appropriate.

However, just sending a letter saying you're interested is a waste of your time as well as the admissions committee's time. The fact that you attended an interview there and haven't withdrawn your application tells them that you're interested.
