I've heard that in Dental School you go to class 8 hours a day 6 days a week, and spend every second of free time studying. Is this an over exaduration or the real deal?

Well I guess it depends on what type of person you are, but anyone would go nuts on that type of schedule...I just want to know if anyone actually knows what its like ya know?

Typical schedule is 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Fridays usually are half days and you may get out around noon. The first 2 years are the hardest because of all the lab work you do on top of the didactic (lecture) material. So if you get out of school at 5 p.m., you still will be spending a lot of time in the lab doing waxups, practicing on the typodont, etc. Then you also have studying to do, taking care of miscellaneous things outside of school. Moral of the story, you're busy.

if you study a lot to get by in undergrad, then dental school will seem like a lot. If you're the type who barely had to study, it will carry over to dental school.

Dental school is really hard if you want to specialize. If you just want to pass, dental school is relatively easy. You can get by just cramming a couple days before tests and still pass. It all depends on how well you want to know this stuff. And with the lab, for some people the lab is hard, for others, they can walk in, do 2-3 preps in 1-2 hours and leave. So it all depends on how good you are with your hands.

if you study a lot to get by in undergrad, then dental school will seem like a lot. If you're the type who barely had to study, it will carry over to dental school.

It is my opinion that if you develop good study skills and work hard at everything, you will succeed. Once you're in dental school, you will need to apply yourself to learn hand skills, casting, every dental procedure, etc. I don't think that by slacking you can instantly be successful.

And depends on where you go to school. I know this statement doesn't help a lot of people, but my time at Arizona has been 100% relaxing and enjoyable. I've had a great time learning here.
