Is it bad to ask for LOR like this?

I want to ask a PA I used to work with at the ER for a LOR. Problem is, I USEDto work there and I don't have any of his contact information. When I handed in my 2 weeks to ER +6 months ago, I found out he went on vacation. So, I never got the opportunity to ask him. Terrible luck.

I know one of the scribes still working there and she said she'd happily get contact information from him for me so I can ask him if he'd be willing. Does this sound like a bad idea? Would this give a bad impression? I have no idea when he works and I live an hour away from the ER.

How should I approach this?

It kind of depends on your relationship w/ the PA...if you were fairly close work friends or had a casualish professional relationship, it's not too crazy. But the more important thing is that you have at least one LOR from a physician, preferably a DO. Good luck!

Call the ER, ask when the PA is working, go at that time and do it in person. Much better and professional.
I travel 4 hours away to get my DO LOR and have to hound the schedule to see when he's working.

Not sure how schools look at a PA letter vs DO though.

I scribe/nurse for a PA and we have a really good relationship so she wrote me a good letter but I wouldn't substitute it for a MD/DO letter though.
