Is it bad to have quite a few C's on your transcript

So before doing any retakes I had 7 C's on my transcripts all from 1st and 2nd year, all were Pre-req sciences courses (yikes) except a math course. Retook 4 of those courses for A's.

Also, I'll still have C's in the lab parts of the courses I retook, because I only retook the lecture portion. So I'll still technically have 6 C's on my application that haven't been retaken, but three will be 1 credit labs.

Will all those C's look pretty bad in the eyes of adcoms? I've gotten a lot of A's and some B's in upper level courses: biochem, cell bio, pharmacology, physiology, immunology, genetics, neuroscience, etc. if it matters. And my sGPA will be a 3.4.

That's a good upward trend with strong performance in upper div. + some retakes with a solid sGPA...remember that math courses don't factor into sGPA for AACOMAS. Do well on the MCAT, of course and I would thing you'll be fine.

EDIT: "performance" auto-corrected to "pereormcane", for some reason

I agree, most schools will see the upwards trend and overall GPA before analyzing what the Cs are in. If you can retake the labs, it certainly wouldn't hurt, but I assume if you can get a decent MCAT score and keep that GPA, you should be fine!

If it makes you feel any better, I had 4 (Physics II, Molecular Cell Bio, Calculus, and PE.) Granted, 2 of those were after I got accepted and started working 6 shifts a week at the hospital to pay for the deposit due in a few weeks. As long as you have a good upward trend and a decent MCAT I think you will be fine!

Ok thanks everyone. I got a 29 on the MCAT, so hopefully that and with the retakes and the upper level courses I will be in decent shape.

With a sGPA of 3.4 and MCAT of 29...I doubt that you will have a problem finding IIs

Concur!

I'm in a very similar position as a sophomore! I was wondering how you were able to retake so many classes? Were these all done in summer of were some of them retaken during the fall and spring semesters? It just seems very overwhelming to retake classes, while also trying to complete my other remaining Bio major classes

I think you'll survive. Just be prepared to discuss it in your interview. I have 2 C's in 2 major classes and they smacked me down and beat me with them in the interview.
