Is it dumb to do a post-bacc in Washington?

I'm from Illinois so there are obviously lots of options here. But I figure if I have to spend an extra year in undergrad courses, why not do it somewhere I'll enjoy/be happy?

1. Will I lose my residency in Illinois if I'm just going to school there (9 months)?
2. How hard would it be to get into UW now (late)?

1. I think you would only lose residency in your home state if you change your license to WA upon moving there. Assuming you don't, no.
2. I imagine it's difficult to get in now, however, I'm contemplating applying to the UofM MS program, and the deadline is in 4 days.... From my understanding, applying is free, so in my opinion, it wouldn't hurt.

1. It is *possible* to lose IL residency. You should check with each school for its requirements for residency. It is possible that schools might consider you non-resident if you haven't lived there for the last 12 months.

2. If you only move to WA for educational purpose, you would not be considered in-state for UW. So it would be more difficult as an OOS applicant; it is already competitive in-state.

do you not like it where you are? There are a handful of schools in IL!

Nope!

But I'm thinking of just doing a post-bacc in Illinois and spending a year while (hopefully) interviewing in Washington.
