Dental Mom said:I friend just told that is really hard to get in at ASDOH. What are your experiences with this school?
If I move to AZ next Summer 😕 I'll be a resident, and maybe I can find some Cuban connections there? 👍 Just kidding.
I'm hoping to graduate with a 3.5 GPA in 3 yrs maybe less....
Thanks in advance 🙂

It all came down to the interview. I really didn't like the experience and I guess they didn't like it from their perspective either.

hello- can you please tell me what this meantBeestieboy said:LOL! I actually interviewed at UNLV just a couple days before Arizona. I don't want to be really negative towards Arizona, but man, that intervew was so far off what the other dental school interviews were. I like the idea they have, the timing of the boards, the use of technology, the way they don't have tenured faculty, the area, the community, all of it. I just didn't feel like the people running the interview got to know me. I smoked the hand skills test earning an audible "wow" from the old guys taking the scores twice. I did very well on the survival game luckily having had a class that did an exercise like that not too long before. I knew all the crazy questions in the interview except for where friggen Lucern was. Since I haven't been to Europe or Switzerland, how the crap was I to know? Plus, when was the last time that place was in the news and why should I know it? Anyways, the guys on my panel were just really crusty. The didn't give me anything to play back on in the interview. They stonewalled me when I asked what kind of students they want in their school. I guess don't ask that question. They seriously said "we can't tell you" and then let the conversation mood just die. You could never tell if they wanted you to talk more, shut up, or anything like that. They made it very hard for me to feel comfortable and act like myself. I came out of the room feeling really rattled and wishing I could have said things a little differently, but oh well. Luckily it's the only school that did that to me. It was the students afterwards who sold the school to me. They were great, didn't show stress, and were really enjoying their experience. Plus the facilites were beautiful. Ah well.
UNLV on the other hand was a very pleasant experience the whole way through. The people were so very nice and the students were helpful. The interviews were low stress and I felt comfortable in conversation with them and felt they got to see me in a better and more natural light. Their facilites are as nice as Arizona and it's closer to family for me. I would love to go to UNLV and in fact I hope I get the chance.
Good luck to you all. Seriously.
r u tested at all schools like that or only that oneBeestieboy said:There is a hand skills test to test your manual dexterity, there is a group interaction/discussion segment, and there will be a geography question. It changes all the time so don't just think that if you know where Lucern is that you're good to go. There is a heck of a lot more than the above, but I don't want to ruin the....suprise.

ItsGavinC said:It IS difficult to get into AZ, but it's also difficult to get into most schools around the country.
There are a lot of factors that come into play, including personality, grades, DAT scores, LORs, and how early you apply. This goes for every school, not just ASDOH.
ItsGavinC said:LOL, not if you like actually doing work in the clinic. 😉
MissingPolaris said:Does it really matter how early you apply? Joyce (admission lady) said they only send out about 20 acceptance letters on Dec 1st and they will interview all the way to feb or march and those plp are still interviewing for avaliable spots in class.
