or is the Neuro section in First Aid a bit weak?? I'm taking it as a kind of syllabus of things to read up on from other sources but just wondered what the best sources may be? Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

judging from your screen name, it sounds like no single resource will be able to satisfy you. but I thought that the neuro section in Kaplan Home Study series was comprehensive and detailed (the neuroanatomy and neuro-pharm sections are 100 pages each).

good one: neuro... weak....

ahem. i agree the neuro in FA is a little brief; conversely, i think the kaplan books are a little too much. as i recall, the step1 CNS questions were in more detail than the peripheral system questions. personally, i used FA, read part of the kaplan section (but decided it was low-yield), and spent 1 day reviewing my 1st-year neurology course... and i did well on step1 neuro.

I agree with u walker. I went through FA neuro and still did not perform excellently on the Qbank from that session. So i decided to suck it up and use HY Neuroanatomy, which is way better and has more anatomy. After that, i will go back to FA and hit the major points they have.

I've said it before, I'll say it again: Neuro is close to overrepresented on Step 1 these days. And this just isn't me (n=1) this was a consensus of people in my class (and we are very well prepared in neuroanatomy/neuroscience in the first two years).

If you have the resources, HY Neuro in conjunction with Kaplan's MedEssential's Neuro section do a pretty decent job of going through the various syndromes and the anatomy correlates.

I used Road Map Neuroscience and found it quite good. I prefer it to High Yield Neuro as the writing style is better. However, HY does have more images.

I picked up Clinical Neuroanatomy MRS for free. Is this a decent book, it seems small? Should I just suck it up and get HY? After making my schedule it seems like I have so little time to go reading another book.

I used HY newuroanatomy. It helped me a lot in the exam. I also suggest the head and neck chapter from HY Gross anatomy. Wish you best of luck.

I read this book before my neuro final last year and really thought it was pretty much worthless. It might be a good intro to basic neuro concepts before you've been exposed to them in class, but I think it's too light on detail to be of use to anyone after the class. Of course I haven't taken Step 1 yet, so I don't know. I can say I'm planning on using HY instead, though.
