Everything including secondaries completed in the beginning of August
International student (non-Canadian) but doing undergrad at a Canadian university
4.0 GPA and 4.0 sGPA
21AA 22TS 20PAT 19RC
4 different research experiences
co-author of 2 research posters who presented one at a big conference
Several leadership positions
more than 300 hours of community service
120 hours of job shadowing
no history of academic violation, legal issues, major illness, etc
avg or a bit above avg personal statement if not fantastic
applied to Harvard (but didn't send secondary fee), columbia, UPenn, NYU, BU, and Buffalo

But so far, I only got one interview invite (NYU), and one rejection ('continuing review at Buffalo). I see many people including my friends with similar stats to mine or a bit lower have gotten 2 or 3 interviews at least, but not me.

I know Columbia won't give me pre-dec interview since my DAT is less than 22AA, and Harvard won't not just because my stats aren't super fantastic for Harvard but also I didn't send money. But besides this, I honestly don't understand why schools don't like me.

I just saw the last spot for pre-dec interview at Penn is taken, and found out almost all pre-dec spots at BU are taken...

Seriously depressed, can't eat or sleep well..
I feel like I should see a psychiatrist or something..

You should have applied to more schools...

I didn't want to waste my money to schools that I don't want to spend my 4 years, and there were not many schools accepting non-Canadian international students who didn't do undergrad in the states...

Well, if you think that Columbia and Harvard are out of reach, got invited to nyu, and received continuing review from buffalo.... that leaves you with only 2 schools! There are many people who applied to over 15 schools that aren't hearing back! Like the above post said, you should have applied to more schools just in case. Good luck though, you have a great resume.

I agree that I should've applied more schools.
Well, NYU is one of my top choice school, so I am happy that I got interview there, but I just felt anxious and so much worried because interview does not garuntee the acceptance..

But anyway, thanks so much everyone, and best of luck to all of you guys🙂

I know you have great stats, but being an international applicant you should have applied to more schools. Excluding Harvard (which you didn't pay the secondary for?) I'm counting 5 schools. If I was you I'd make that number 10... it's NOT too late with your stats (you may get February/March interviews but you're a good applicant and stand a good chance of being accepted then). I know you (and everyone else on this board) loves New England but I suggest you apply to other schools that are international-applicant friendly... you'll be pleasantly surprised with how nice other parts of the country are!

I think CMistry is bang on. You should have applied to more schools for sure, especially the ones that are Canadian-friendly, since they are most likely also international friendly. UDM and Case are ones you should have applied to. You can probably still add some schools, or re-apply to more next year. As a Canadian/int'l, it seems that luck and randomness play huge factors so the more schools the better.

By the way, I also haven't heard from Penn and got put on continuing review at UB, but have had a few interviews due to applying fairly broadly.

im not even an international and i applied to 50 schools. just saying lol

why would you say low chance of admission for buffalo, they took 5 Canadian last year.

With stats like yours I understand why logically you would not apply broadly but... please take note that there are also things you can't predict/control that are part of the admissions process (e.g. luck/chance) and so you don't want to play the odds, no matter how tiny, when it comes to something so important.

As previously said by someone, it's not too late to apply with your stats to other schools so although you are at a disadvantage in terms of timing you can still be considered. I would definitely apply to 10+ schools (esp. almost all private ones...). If you have an upward trend and heavy science semesters I would definitely try UoP.

P.S. contact the admissions of the schools you are extremely interested in (e.g. top 3-5 via email) and tell them exactly WHY you love their school. Be honest and humble... it can't hurt you.

Good luck!

You don't have to go to an Ivy League school to become a competent dentist. I also agree that you should apply to more schools, especially if you are worried. You never know what could happen, and sadly, being international narrows your options--but you knew that going in. Good luck!

Well, based on their location you can bet they got a ton of Canadian applicants for those 5 spots they gave out. They also interview 151 people for 24 OOS spots, of which 8 were given to Can/intls.

All I know is that my stats are much higher than the means they gave to the ADEA and I was put on continuing review fairly early (a kind rejection I think). As a state school, they have no obligation to take any OOS/int'l, but I just hope people know that the chances at getting into UB or other state schools are slim even with great stats.
