I am curious....what is wrong with just wanting to be a Doctor? I did not really look into "top tier schools" when I was applying. I just wanted a school that will make me a good doctor. Since all american schools have to follow certain guidelines does it matter? When we take the USMLE's don't we all have a chance of doing well? Besides prestige do people that graduate from top tier schools are they destined to be better Doctor's?
As for the OP do not go to a school that will make you miserable, but if the "top tier schools" do not want you what will you do will you forget your end goal of becoming a Dr?
