Is it okay to retake classes?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
take upper level bio classes..dont retake a pre-req if you have a C or above. if u keep getting C's in the upper level bios, then you should stop taking classes and get urself situated correctly.

I have a quick question.

I have 5 C/C+ in science courses...4 of which are in the upper sciences. Is it okay to retake them to raise all my GPAs, or should I not waste my time or money since the admissions won't really care?

Thanks!🙂

Normally, its best to just take new upper level bios and ace them. Retaking a class you've encountered before and doing well might not look as impressive (especially since the material has been covered twice)

But... since you have too many C's in upper levels....A better plan is to mix it up. Like for example, if your going to do 4 courses per term, do 3 new and 1 re-takes....... Eventually, if you run out of new courses, you can go back and retake the others.

By the way, the only retake I would ever recommend is on an upper level bio... retaking the basic pre-dents is a waste of time and money (unless ofc you have less than a C ~ then its mandatory)

It was painful enough the first time. No need to repeat. Just like someone above said, take different upper level bios to boost that sGPA back up.

+1👍

Show them that you have grown and are capable of scoring higher in an upper level class 😀

Okay, thanks everyone!

I'm going to retake human physiology this summer. In Fall 2011, I will take 4 new upper-science courses and a language course, for a total of 15 credits at my University 🙂 And also I will take Orgo II Lec/Lab at CC.

In Spring 2012, I will again take 4 new upper-science courses and a language course for a total of 17 credits.

Thanks!

If you have 4 C's in upper level biology courses, what makes you think you will do well taking 4 new science courses at once? You have to get A's to repair your past. If you take on too much and earn more C's, you will make your situation much worse. Has your situation changed since you earned the C's (illness, divorce, parent ill with cancer)? If you have been successful in upper level biology classes since this time, then go for it! If not, you might want to take one class this summer and maybe 3 sciences in the fall.
