Hey guys,

I just took my DATs today, first time, and got really nervous during the test. AA: 19, PAT:19, TS: 19. Is it okay to retake the DAT before submitting my apps? Oh, and which books do you recommend to study the gchem section from?

GPA: 3.7, Science GPA: 3.65
Two years research experience, two years dental lab experience.

I'm in the same boat as you. My scores are nearly identical to yours and I'm hoping to submit my application within the next few days. My GPA and other areas are strong as well. I've already signed up to retake it, which is a decision that I'm now second guessing. I posted in another thread and was told that schools will sometimes hold your application until they receive your 2nd scores. However, I don't see why they can't process your application with your first score and then just update your file upon receiving your second scores. In other words I was hoping to receive some interviews off of my first scores and then ideally my (hopefully) improved second scores will give me an extra edge when schools are making their final decision.

As for gchem (which was one of my higher sections), I used Kaplan, my textbook (Chang 9th edition), and the ACS guide.

Here's the best way to know for sure what will happen: Call each school and find out.

If I had scores like both of you guys, I wouldn't be worried, and I wouldn't retake the DAT. But if you still want to, go for it. But call each school to find out what they will do with your application.

Thanks for the info! Hopefully we'll both do tremendously better. Good luck on apps!

Thanks for the info SuperTank, I'll try calling Monday...Fishbrains, if you decide to retake, good luck!

Anyone find out any information about this? I am in the same position.
