Mind you I've done nothing to this woman.
My first exam I bombed. But I didn't study at all. I crammed. I now know u can't cram biochem. I've hardly said one word. I get the impression she doesn't think I'm very smart. During the exam the TA was breathing down my neck. Then when I turned in my test the TA yelled at me turn the test in here.

I doubt she dislikes you. It sounds like a class she doesn't particularly enjoy teaching nor does the TA enjoy TA-ing. Try to talk to her during office hours. Showing sincere interest and desire to improve works wonders.

Can you do well?
Short answer: Yes.
Long answer: YYYeeeeessssssssssssssss

Look, there will always be jerk professors and TA's. Are you getting answers wrong in the exam? Then study harder and get them right! It doesn't seem like your professor has done anything wrong besides for being mean, and you'll have to learn to deal with it. If she thinks you are dumb, then prove her wrong. It's not going to be the last time someone will be rude to you for no apparent reason.

Maybe she's in love with you?

Seriously, though; as long as you do your work and and perform well, there is no reason you wouldn't do well. Maybe you are jumping the gun on labeling her behavior as "hate".

@Reckoner Bring back Mayor Ford!!
I don't know, I was thinking about continuing the "hot mess foreign politician" theme with dancing Putin:

Yeah, I've always gotten A's in classes I had with rude and discouraging teachers. They're annoying to deal with, but ultimately the effort you put in is the grade you turn out, and it seems you just aren't putting the effort in rather than her sabotaging you.

OP, can you put your frustrations into a poem form like you did here: http://forums.studentdoctor.net/thr...raging-biochem-teacher.1050836/#post-14815626
I approach her office, homework in hand
Fingers tremble as the mind
Professor hates me - does she see?
These logarithms scream louder than TA at test's end

I approach her office, homework in hand
First test bombed Prof won't email back
Every word, every glance, like hot TA breath
The soul cannot heal from this onslaught

My hand, raised as my hopes
Her eyes, empty as my inbox

Is this guy serious not knowing what a log is in a biochem course? I thought that's covered in like 9th grade.

This is the best thing I've read since the last thread. Hahahaha, like x100000000

Here we go again..

OP, professors don't matter. Work ethic matters. If you have every answer verbatim correct, no matter how much a teacher "hates" you they will give you 100. Just study more, and more effectively.

Are you wildly attractive? Does she stare at your package during lecture? If so, you're probably screwed. Ain't that right, @TheBatman ?

I would beg to differ because My professor undoubtably hates me but I've aced the exams to simmer down the hatred.

Answer to question in title: It depends on the hater.

You can try to gauge whether she's likely to be mean and rude yet fair, or completely dishonest. You can check with other students who've had her as a professor to try to figure this out. If you think her behavior is related to some characteristic you have, a confidential talk with the diversity office might reveal whether or not she has a record of unfairness.

My biggest concern hearing about a situation like that is that she might try to give you a bad or lesser grade than you deserve, or have negative things to say in your committee letter or recommendation. If she's dishonest, you can't count on her to follow the rules or to do what's right.

Am I missing something from the OP? OP bombed an exam.... but admittedly didn't study well for it. I don't see anywhere in that post that indicates that the prof doesn't like OP, except OP's impression that the professor thinks he's not smart. How does all of this translate to the professor hating OP? I don't know what's up with the TA, but seems people are jumping to conclusions about this professor.

My Orgo teacher hated me (for some reason)! I found out later, he wanted to go to Med school but that didn't work out for him so he ended up teaching Orgo. He hates anyone that is attempting med school. He yelled and picked on me endlessly in the lab - he would be breathing down my neck the whole time in the labs and saying im doing something wrong making me nervous (i hated it). Everybody told me he was in love with me. I was thinking maybe it's true, He's old enough to be my dad but then I am incredibly hot 😉 so it's not strange to have old men misbehaving around me. I am used to it. But I knew this teacher hated me and didn't think much of me. The first test was okay, i got an 80. The second test - he removed scores everywhere he could - i got an 82 and he crossed it out and gave me 68, he said i did bond-lines instead of compressed formula (and he didn't ask for neither and didn't say don't do bond-lines). I found out he marked some students that did bond-lines right, so i went back to him to ask very nicely for him to review my paper & give me a chance cos he didn't state not to do bondlines he marked other students right except me - I asked him why he crossed out my original 82 still on my paper - he insulted me out of his office. I would have taken it to the dean and pull a fight. I decided i don't have time for this and this guy was so determined on failing me. I was trying to get an A and not have this guy mess with my GPA so, I dropped the class immediately and started it at another college (quite a distance and i lost my tuition but i had peace of mind, and I got an A). I found out later 2 other non-trads in the class dropped it as well (this professor was out for blood and was targeting non-trads). The only non-trad that was left got a C in his class. C???!!! I am so glad i dropped, he would've given me a D cos I thought he liked them and hated only me. I heard that mistake was telling him we are career changers trying to meet med school requirement. Tho he asked on the first day, everyone's background and major etc. So please don't let some professors know your goal. Watch them carefully before you divulge your goals or they may try to sabotage it. Haters!

:laugh::laugh:

The narcissism is strong in this one.

And boring prose too. May I suggest a more poetic approach?? :naughty:
Ahem...

Attention OP: I feel I can relate
For from my professor, I've sensed similar hate

He once was a proud man, and an applicant too
'Til June 1st, '85, that day he would rue.

Oh Hopkins, oh Harvard, oh Stanford, and Yale
See what you've done to this man, once hearty and hale

Now a shell of himself, bitter, satanic
Resigned to a life of teaching organic

As soon as we locked eyes I knew I was doomed
For no girl was prettier in that sterile lab room

His vile perversity other girls might reject
But with my daddy issues, eh, it's what I expect

With an 80 on test one, I let down my guard
The stories must be lies, this class isn't that hard!

But then came test two, and his plan was revealed
An 82 68, my sad fate had been sealed

To the dean I must rush, and prepare for combat
But no, never mind, ain't nobody got time for that

I dropped like a stone, and at a new school enrolled
And still when I ponder it I swear I've been trolled

So, OP, listen closely, and heed what I say
You must hide your intentions. Hide them away!

Could there be other reasons why I failed that course?
Don't bother explaining, you'll talk yourself hoarse

The whole wide universe revolves around me

Haters!

Hmmm not judging whether your prof actually hates you or not, but if classes sport a multiple choice test then, yes I'd say it's easier to do well. If it's free response and they are grading there is more room for subjective points to be lost. In this case you will have to study extra hard to remove any room for subjectivity.

unless you're banging the prof's spouse, he doesn't hate you, and yes, you can do well in any class if you put the work in.

Not hardly with this professor!! You can't get through his thick skull for real. He was def. hating! Some people didn't get to where they wished and they don't want to see others get ahead. He's not a good teacher either, looks like he failed at that too.

Trust me, some professors are just out for blood!!! No matter how hard you work!!
It's like something about you just doesn't sit right with them or they are intimidated. My particular prof from day one was never able to make eye contact with me. He always looks away when I am talking to him. And when I raise my hand to ask a question, he'd always ignore me but wouldn't mind breathing down my neck in the lab! And I knew my stuff and was working very hard. Some people are just odd!

I'm 110% positive that my English professor isn't a fan of mine, but there's really not much you can do besides put your best foot forward, grit your teeth, and get through the course. Sucks when you come across this issue in a subjective class, but to be clear, she has thus far been fair with the grading, so I simply shrug it off. Don't have to be friends, just have to finish the class.
