I am about to be a junior this Fall and my GPA is currently 2.7. I was in college thinking a lot about my major and I was undecided with what I wanted to do but I recently decided that I was interested in PT school and becoming a physical therapist. My current major is actually undecided for now and I am interested in knowing if I have a chance. I know that I have to take the prerequisites and to possibly change majors. did not get to take any pre requisite classes yet and I don't have any volunteer hours because I was thinking about this career just recently. I also have about 5 W grades so I had to withdraw from 5 classes due to some personal issues and mistakes. If I calculated the highest GPA that I can get by graduation, it will be around 3.3. Is it possible for me to get accepted anywhere? What should I do to stand out?? I had to withdraw from Calculus 1 twice due to bad professors but I am thinking about trying to pass all of the prerequisites and to succeed. I am mostly scared about the W grades, which will hinder me a lot in applying to anywhere. Is it a chance to get in or am I just wasting my time?

I will try to apply at a different time but I have to improve my application. What's the best advice that you have for me??

Has anything changed since you last asked this? You've been given advice on multiple forums and push back hard against people who are volunteering their knowledge and know a lot more than you. I'm not sure what you are hoping to hear differently this time.

Are you interested in PT or PA? You’ve asked this question on both forums. While they’re both in healthcare they’re wildly different professions that are very competitive to get into school for so before we can give you any advice you need to decide which pathway you want to take.

I am interested in PT school.

You currently have very little chance. If you get your GPA up you have a good chance. But that is purely hypothetical until you actually get your GPA up. It is really that simple.

Most people keep telling me to go be a garbageman or plumber because of my grades. How can I prove them wrong? How hard is it to get straight A grades for the next few years?? What should I do? What other decent areas of healthcare can I try instead if I don't get into PT school??

How can you prove them wrong? By putting in the work and doing whatever it takes to go after what you truly want to do and not give up because you’re not moving at the pace that you want to. The best revenge is success, to use the negatives that others say and turn it into motivation to get yourself to where you want to be. You can tell how indecisive you are and how it seems like you just want a job that makes you look good on paper. My advice, shadow the jobs you’re truly interested in and then picking the one you set you heart onto the most and don’t give up no matter what.
I was indecisive and instead of going straight to school, I joined the military (15 years now) and when I decided to be a DPT, I knew for sure that it’s what I wanted. Everyone told me I wouldn’t make it, and that I’d fail, I changed my mindset and worked harder than I ever had at school. My overall GPA was a 3.83 and my pre-req GPA is around a 3.9, I still didn’t get in my first round but it’s mostly because I had zero shadowing hours. Did I let that setback get me down? No, I found a job as a PT Aide and using my network to getting more shadowing hours, I’m making it this next time around.
Don’t give up on what you truly want, stop panicking and caring about what others say, use the negatives to push you to be better, and find a goal and stick to it, give it your all! If you don’t, there’s no hope in those careers, then maybe a trade school like a LVN, medical assistant, pharmacy tech, or even a PT assistant instead of DPT and aide.

My undergrad GPA was slightly above 2.7 I believe. I raised my cumulative GPA up to low 3.0s just by taking pre-reqs and classes that were necessary to get to pre-reqs which was about 50-ish units total. For those 50 units, my GPA was 3.75-ish and pre-reqs GPA 3.55-ish. My GRE was below 300, but I did get accepted to 3 PT schools and successfully finished one with GPA 3.75. Your stats looks better than mine, so you definitely have plenty of chances to get in PT school.
Don't worry about Ws. By the time you apply to PT school, it will be long time ago. They should not care about your calculus since it's not even in pre-reqs.
So the advice is to continue getting the highest grades possible. Do shadowing in 3 different settings (but don't waste your time on crazy number of hours! Slightly above minimum requirements is good enough). School will see your progress. You are not the only one who did not do well at school at earlier age :).
When it's time to apply, make sure your stats are competitive to the schools you are applying to. If you GPA is 3.3, don't waste time and money to apply to competitive state schools whose average accepted students' GPA is 3.7. Also consider schools that look at the last 50-100 units GPA only.

Take 2-3 classes at a time to be able to have enough time to study. I needed a lot of time to study compared to an average students, so I never took more than 12 units at a time, sometimes less.
