Is it possible to send individual letters to certain schools only?

Hi there,

One of the schools I am applying to suggests that I include a LOR from a physician. I am applying MD-PhD, and have pretty minimal interactions with physicians outside of shadowing, so am thinking of asking one of the physicians that I shadowed. However, I am sure this letter will be pretty generic - I only shadowed him for 30 hrs or so, and so I would prefer not to send it to any schools that don't require it. My school sends out letter packets, and I was wondering if it might be possible to send the packet to every school that I am interested in and then send the shadowing letter alongside said packet specifically to schools that require the clinical letter? Or would such a thing not be possible?

For the new cycle 2025-2026, AMCAS letters will be managed through the Letter Portal (different from the sunsetting Letter Service application).

The AAMC Letter Writer Portal is a service to facilitate the exchange of letters of recommendation in support of AAMC application services.

Check with the team, but you should be able to independently send and designate where your additional shadowing letter goes.

Yes, the clinical letter will just have to be uploaded directly to your amcas application and not sent with your letter packet.
