I was just wondering what the chances are of getting into a school like UCSF or UCSD as an oos student. I am attending Arizona State University and have a gpa that will be in the range of 3.55-3.6, my mcat came balanced as 10v 11bs 11ps. I am considered a urm, non-traditional, and also disadvantaged kind of crazy. Have great ec's and lor's. Any info would be appreciated.

Anything is possible. I also go to ASU. Good luck in the process.

I got rejected from UCSF pre-secondary. UCSD interviewed me and put me on waitlist, there was another OOS applicant at the interview (out of only 7 or 8 interviewees), dunno what happened to him though. At UCSD they said there were maybe 5 or so OOS ppl in their class, but I dunno how many were accepted

There's no harm in trying, your background + EC's will help you out also. Worst case scenario, you lose some money. Both schools also screen pretty heavily for secondary applications, so if you get past that screen then you have some shot at least

Baylor outright rejected you? 😵

yah, rejected pre-interview. i think it's harder for OOS ppl to get into Baylor, but I was hoping for at least an interview (was one of my top choices b/c it's cheap and b/c my gf is going to med school in TX)

But congrats to you on getting in! (w/ a scholarship no less)

It's possible. But I'm guessing you won't be successful.

Your stats will be below average for those schools and if I understand correctly Proposition 209 will negate your urm status at those schools.

sadly, there are ways around this...schools can accept or reject based on MANY reasons that can quietly shroud the bottom-line AA.

OP: you should have a decent shot at those schools...just emphasize primary care intentions
