Is it really necessary to enroll in a $2000-$3000 Kaplan/EK review course in order to get at least a 30+ on the MCAT? They offer these classes at my college, but their expensive, plus they are 2.5 hrs long (end at 10pm), 5 days week, and really "generic" according to the people I asked. I was wondering if it was possible to get a 30+ if I just bought whole bunch of prep books, AAMC exams, etc..(All just under $500). What score did you get using the course program? self-prep only?

I found the Kaplan course I took to be a waste of time. I learned more from independent study from Princeton Review & others..

I did PR last semester and Biggest waste of time and money. The review books- including loads of practice- you can always find online and thats all you need!! Other than that invest in all the AAMC tests and you can do it. Other kids need instruction and stuff but I have a very independent personality- I like teaching stuff to myself and I cant see it unless I find a way to talk through it. It depends on your personality too

yes and no. you should study at least as much as in that official course. you should use some prep books, whether from EK or TPR,etc and also supplement with your regular textbooks whenever the material doesnt go deep enough. Whether you take the course or not, you are responsible for all the studying.

Definitely not worth it. I paid 1900 for the kaplan course. total waste of time and money! study on your own if you have the motivation otherwise just take Princeton!
