Is it rude to ask people about their GPA, MCAT, ECs?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
A little off topic but 2 the haters that ask 4 your stats and tell u oh u got in bc u r a minority r so spiteful and say what u want I STILL ACCOMPLISHED WHAT MANY DONT HATERS

I went to a top tier "cutthroat competitive" university... I'm sure there were those types of ppl at my school but I never really encountered one.

I've had friends who have done crazy crazy awesome things internationally and went to Harvard Med.... they're not like that... nor are the ppl who went to University of Your State Medical School.

However, there were those weird ppl in class that would suck up to the professor, buy every book the prof wrote, and would read those books on the side to discuss something with the prof during office hours.... I knew to stay away from those types.

Med school admissions is a mind game, you need to know how to play with the ppl you are applying with sometimes cuz you have to keept your sanity first.

Most ppl I was friends with who are applying around the same time were very open about mcats, gpas, surprisingly everything up to accepts and rejects. Maybe they just trust me too much? i dunno, but I've rarely encountered what you did Rama Kandra... stay away from that girl, she prolly feels inferior and using a defense mechanism, but don't let her bring you down too!!

So its pointless in being a "self-informing pre-med" acting as if what one is doing is actually useful. It's not. If you ask me, pre-meds asking each other about their GPA/MCAT is just pre-med nerds being nerds. They're just trying to see if they can see themselves as being better than you. Get a life. 🙄

I've never asked someone their GPA/MCAT but when I'm talking to someone and they share it, I learn a lot from their application experiences (especially ppl who applied in previous cycles who have similar scores and are from the same state).

I just talked to a friend who is in med school. He gave me AWESOME advice on what to expect with my GPA/MCAT and told me where to concentrate my secondaries last month.

You can learn a LOT from other people's mistakes, I think a lot of ppl had a grueling year applying to med school last year and actually have a heart. They dont' want you to make the same mistake they made ("dont' apply late like I did,")

Its not pre-med nerds being nerds.... people talk about relationship problems all the time... med apps are a huge part of ppls lives I don't blame ppl for talking about it.

You can get them drunk......and ask their stats.

Ah, the aunty-uncle debacle. It's funny how many things can pass off as acceptable within Indian families that are outright blasphemies in any other social context.

I, too, have fallen victim to the cousin-to-cousin comparison 🙁

I have 3 cousins in the US (and like 30 in India not kidding)

One of them did a DO the rest are non doctors including my siblings.

I've experienced the opposite this cycle, my uncle keeps telling me to appy to DO and same with my parents... I wanna see if I can get admission to an MD first, is that wrong? I dunno what to say cuz my parents keep telling me to do a DO like my cousin.
