So it's March 9th, and I've got only 1 interview... AADSAS printouts were mailed on November 15th, and all applications were complete according to schools... What went wrong!!! My letter was great, my profile is very good, I've received many scholarships, been on the Dean's List every year, I've job shadowed, my LORs are good...so what happened?

I know I applied "late" but it seems that people who applied later than me to the same schools have gotten accepted. Could it be because I'm a Canadian applicant and U.S schools wait until CDN schools are done selecting before inviting Canadians down?

I wanna stress that I'm not freaking out here, but I'm just curious, and really really realllllllllly wanna get into dentistry. So if anyone has any feedback, give me a shout!

Thanks guys and gals 🙂

Can't believe Temple rejected you with those stats. Obviously it has to be because by the time they got around to reviewing your app they were already jam packed..making an interview invitation a moot point.
Maybe its possible that we Canadians get put on the backburner..i'm not sure. I know I havn't heard anything from Boston,Tufts or NYU yet and my applications were sent out Aug 4th!

Yeah dude, I haven't heard anything from any Boston area schools either, or NYU. I know Boston, Tufts and NYU all take Canadians regularly, and I'm pretty sure that a lot of them apply fairly late in the cycle as well, so I don't know... I do get really nervous though when people put postings on this boarding saying that the classes of those schools are already pretty much full 🙁 I guess we have to keep waiting!

I cant believe that you only got one interview. Your stats are amazing. I see only four schools in your signature though. I interviewed at Pitt and Mich this year and Temple last year. Early applications are key. Last year I applied in November and had three waitlists. This year, I applied in May and had three acceptances and a few waitlists. Temple is ridiculous altogether. Last year I was on their waitlist. This year they told me I dont even have to interview again and I have no response from them. At the interview, Pitt says they really likes early applicants... and Mich implied the same.

Worst comes to worse.... next year you will have your pick of schools.
With your stats though, I wouldnt be surprised if you got accepted to Columbia.

Keep your hopes up and good luck....

PS... you should call the schools and ask them what is wrong with your app. You paid the application fees... may as well get your moneys worth

The question is: Do you want to be bottom of the barrell this year? Or cream of the crop next year?

No, IN IS NOT ALWAYS the same. This year it's looking like he will be lucky to get into one school. Next year he'd probably get into multiple schools and be in the fortunate position of picking and choosing where he wants to go.

Keep in mind residency. U of Michigan is a state-supported school, that might have something to do with Pitt as well. I don't know much about Pitt, specifically whether or not it is private or public. If it has state support (public), it will likely have a certain number of spots it must fill with residents of the state of Pennsylavania.

I can't believe you didn't get more interviews. I am a Canadian and I have pretty much the same stats as you. But I got 6 interviews invite. Don't know why Temple and Pittsburgh won't give you interviews because I got it from them. And you got interview from Columbia, which they didn't give me. The application cycle is pretty weird.

Did you apply to NYU? You should have gotten an acceptance without interviews, with your stats. My friend wrote her DAT in December, and in two weeks, she received acceptance without interview from them.

Have you tried calling the other schools to see if your file is complete because Boston University interviewed me and then told me that they haven't received my recommendation letters afterwards. You should start calling the other schools that you are still waiting for to make sure.

Did you apply to any Canadian schools aside from American school? Maybe you will have more luck there.

LOL getting into a Canadian Dental school! Unless you live in the province you plan on attending Dental school acceptance is very limited otherwise and you must have GPA of >3.8 in sciences at most places that I have inquired. Even if you attend in province dental school the GPA needs to be very high as AUDIO mentioned in another post (somewhere in the 3.9 GPA for U.T dental this year)... With only 12 dental schools in all of Canada, (2 french?) this leaves very little hope especially applying to another province....

Just a thought.
