I have finished 10 secondaries and have already been rejected by Vanderbilt. My MCAT and GPA at 36/3.93 and I have my Master's in Chem.

I have applied 9 applications that have been submitted since early-mid Aug. to Sept 1st.

I have yet to hear anything from even the state schools (FL).

I know Harvard and a few others might not start sending things out but I've heard of others having interview offers already.

Should I be starting to worry?

I'm basically in your same boat (with a lower GPA and MCAT scores and from NY).

I believe it takes med schools quite some time to review applications.

Bear in mind, some people haven't even sent in applications and schools have deadlines in 2011, so I doubt no interview yet means no interview.

Short answer: No. Hang tight, plenty of people don't have an interview yet (particularly those that only completed their secondaries in August).

If your stats warrant worry about interviews, then I'm in trouble.
Seriously, if a 36/3.9 can't get interviews, the stats for this year are about to explode... However, I wouldn't worry when its still this early OP, if you're absolutely paranoid about it you could contact the schools to see if they've sent out interview invites already.

I'm starting to worry a bit since I received one rejection already so I have 9 "coals" still burning. My biggest worry is that I can only afford to apply to 10 schools total. I have spent almost all of my money applying and have just enough (plus a small loan) for interview expenses.

FREAKING OUT!

I applied to over 30 schools and I'm still waiting for the coveted first interview as well. I gotta say...applying to med school has to be one of the worst things I've ever done (in terms of stress and frustration).

mcattaken, i'm pretty sure you'll get into at least one of the florida schools; harvard...maybe...if you have amazing ECs too.

b2sun...my friend was on hold and just got an interview @ GWU so it's not a rejection 🙂

b2sun, I have similar stats (3.9, 40, 2.5 years research, 250 hours clinical, year of tutoring, semester as a TA, etc.) and I have not heard from any of the UC's, nor NYU, nor Penn State, nor Stanford. Have a little patience and faith! 🙂

That seems similar to my results. I did my secondaries July22nd-August22nd

I'm a michigan resident, so here's my list, with a 3.5/36:

Haven't heard from:
St Louis
Michigan
Columbia
MC of Wisconsin
Dartmouth
Cincinnati
Michigan State
Wake Forest
Case Western
Loyola
Oakland
Wayne State
Toledo

Interview invites at:
Creighton
Ohio State

Rejected at:
Boston
Vanderbilt
Georgetown

I'm going to make a suggestion that is highly hypocritical of me:

If you can, avoid the school discussions part of this site during the cycle unless you absolutely need information. While it's a tremendously useful resource for knowing where schools are in the cycle it has for the most part just driven me crazy so far.

ex: it's really helpful to know a school tends to reject people uniformly 3 weeks after completion, but when it's 2 days away, you go crazy with anticipation.

in any case, yeah, I wouldn't freak out yet. Everyone says to begin to panic in January, or something.

Hmmm you have good stats...do you think it's possible you applied to too many low/mid-tier schools? I've been rejected at Georgetown and BU for example, but I have a decent number of Top 10 and 20 invites. I've also met people on the interview trail who are presumably really strong but said they haven't heard back from their "safeties."

Also some of those schools USC, UCLA, NYU, etc. haven't given out invites yet. And being complete in Aug isn't that long ago. I guess the other possibility you could investigate (if you don't get interviews down the line) is a bad LOR or something? (but hopefully not) Anyway best of luck to you!

 So true... these school threads are also driving me crazy... seems like everyone and their cats are getting interview invitations to all the schools that you want to go :scared:. I often tell myself to stop checking the threads because they only freak me out, but my justification is that I'm keeping "tabs" on if schools are even sending out invites, and if so, about how long it takes them to give you a decision.

Hang in there, mcattaken, you've got great stats, I'm sure you'll be getting interview invites soon!

Truer words have never been spoken

This is a great thread. I've been lurkin for a while now, and it's so frustrating to see invites/rejections go out left and right with not a peep from your own schools. Hang in there, OP, and all of you guys who are in the same boat, you'll hear soon.

As for myself, I'm 3.5/36 (just like that michigan kid!) and I have heard: rejection from BU and Vandy, on hold from GW, and juuuuust got ii's from Jefferson and NYMC.

It's easier to tell you than to tell myself to give it a lil time!

I don't feel that there is anything that would stand out on my applicaiton, so I figured it would be a mistake to apply to any top tier schools (except upenn and the cali ones).

It depends on where and when you apply, but if you have very good stats and have been complete over a month at a nice variety of schools, and only have 0-2 invites, something is likely wrong. You should focus on improving ECs, and working on getting new letters. There's also the possibility that your PS is subpar, so be prepared to address questions about that in interviews.

I shopped my PS around to my Professor and friend who are in/finished medical school and they all said it was good. Also, I know that my letters of recommendation are great from really good professors and my Masters adviser.

The one thing that is worrying me in my two research manuscripts are in manuscript hell (one is out for review) the other has been languishing waiting on some final data (that has been taking forever my part has been done for a year). I'm wondering if that is hurting me.

I can't believe that some of you were able to apply to 30 schools I could barely afford 10. I'm hoping with my stats that I get in somewhere if I don't get into a FL school I will be SHOCKED.
