Is it to late to apply to a DO? Does anyone know anything about that process?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Did the deadlines not pass already? I don't think you can apply.

I guess I am also asking if there are any other pre med allopathic applicants in a similar situation, wishing they had included DO app's this cycle and also if they know anything regarding the application process or how it is different etc

So you basically screwed up the application process and didn't include DO schools in your initial batch. Now that you're not hearing from the MD schools, you're trying to see if DO's will give you a chance so late in the game? Let's put it this way - ever chase a girl who you really really really wanted but never gave you the time of day? Meanwhile there's this awesome girl who was interested and willing to give it a shot. You brushed that girl off in pursuit of 'out of your league girl' and now that you realize it might not happen, you're like "Hey, girl that I've brushed off completely because I'm an idiot, wanna date?" when she's already got a steady bf who's basically Mr. Perfect and doesn't care about you now.

Yeah

Yeah

Good analogy. 👍

Yeah

Hence this post, I really am not familar with the DO process - do I need DO experience or does traditional hospital volunteer count as exposure? Is it as research heavy? Should I shadow a DO etc etc

once again, maybe you should actually ask the DO forum this

Yeah

No need to kick him while he's down. He already knows he made a mistake and should of applied to DO schools. That's why he's asking if he can still apply.. No need for an analogy, it could happen to any of us, he's just asking for our help.

Get used to it, its characteristic of many people on here.

It's rather difficult to take any post like this seriously and without bitter sarcasm. The person went to SDN forums...and didn't see "Pre-Osteo"?

Or what? Didn't google "How to apply to DO schools"?

OP just needed a straight answer.
go to this link http://www.aacom.org/InfoFor/applicants/Pages/default.aspx
theres a deadline list on one of the links on that page. The deadline has already passed for many schools, but there are Feb, March, and April deadlines for some schools. If you want to give it a shot, fill out an AACOMAS application. Its pretty much the same process as filling out the AMCAS, in that you need to send transcripts, send lors and get verified and all that.

Being paranoid as I was at the beginning of the cycle I filled one out, applying to only one school just in case i needed to add more DO schools later. My first choice was MD though, and it worked out, but its nice to have a back up plan ready.
