Hi guys,

I am a second time applicant and I applied to 22 schools back in mid-July. I have only heard 5 denials as of January 11th. I'm wondering if I should start calling schools and making a case to come interview. I'm worried that these schools aren't even really willing to give many more interviews and are just waiting a month or two more to send me a denial email. I've heard if you haven't received an interview before January, you're basically screwed. My grades and everything else are fine, but I've taken the MCAT twice and received a 29Q the first time and a 30Q the second time. Should I start thinking about retaking it before I apply this next cycle?

I appreciate any input, thank you.

It couldn't hurt to send a (substantial) update letter to schools. To answer your original question, no it isn't too late. Most schools offer invites well into March.

I received two this week. So not all hope is lost!

Like aSagacious said, if you have something substantial, go ahead and send an update letter. But I wouldn't worry about it yet. The season still has a few more months and 5/22 is not so bad.. You still have 17/22 remaining.

Schools do send invites this late. When I was applying, I received 3 interviews in mid-March. However, not a lot of schools invite that late, and even when they do, there may not be a lot of spots left. It definitely won't hurt to send in update letters to let the schools know that you're still interested. I hope you hear good news soon!

I'm a second time applicant this time as well. Last time I didn't have any interviews until Feb and didn't get accepted anywhere (applied far too late, only had a 30Q, and was unemployed at the time - nothing too bad, but nothing that made me stand out ). The truth is a lot of the schools are still giving out interviews at that point but the number of acceptances that they have left are very restricted and generally, barring an earth shattering interview, they will go to students with high stats.

This isn't saying you aren't going to get in but time is running out. Right now you should be calling or writing them to update them with anything substantial. If in month you don't have anything, I'd consider starting to study for another MCAT and reserve a seat somewhere. If you are going to reapply again you generally are supposed to score at least 3-4 points higher to show that the previous administration wasn't representative of your abilities.

I had a friend get invited for an interview last week so it appears at least some schools are still giving out interview invites.

I'm in the same boat. Applied (late) two years ago, got two interviews (UMass in January --> rejected, SLU during spring break --> waitlist). Rejected from 5 of 21 schools, no interview invites yet this time around.

Starting to gameplan for my third application cycle (not looking forward to retaking the MCAT)...

I hope they still do. I'm still waiting to hear from 18 schools (Complete July) not to mention the ones that put me on a pre-interview hold.

I'm still waiting on ~20 schools, but realistically speaking, probably have chances at only 10 out of those 20 if that.

I'll start panicking come early mid February...

You are most definitely not screwed! I was thinking my chances were slim to hear from many more interviews and then all of a sudden here are 3 that pop up since the first. No need to worry yet, maybe starting worrying as March approaches.

Good Luck!

P.S. You MCAT looks good so long as it's balanced and no subsections are below 8.
