I am currently applying to 21 schools, and I am just about finished with those secondaries. Because my stats were high and I feel like my other activities were decent, I applied to a lot of competitive programs. Now I am worried that I need to cast a wider net, and I am trying to gauge whether or not it is worth it to spend more money on my apps. If I send my primary application to more schools now, will my chances of getting an interview invite be significantly diminished?

Your app is already verified, so once you add the schools, you'll presumably get the secondaries within the next day or two. Spend a few days writing the additional secondaries and you'll still have the apps in by early September. Not too late at all.

Lol I just added on more schools too, so this might be self-serving, but it's not too late!

You're fine adding more schools with respect to timing, but it's also important not to psych yourself out. 21 schools is a healthy number.

Plenty of high stat people report having more success with more competitive schools, and being yield protected out at less competitive ones, so just casting a wide net at schools where you are not really a fit is as likely to result in throwing away time and money as it is to result in more IIs. If you just applied to the T21, you should probably apply wider. On the other hand, if you're just nervous because it's been two days and you don't have half a dozen IIs yet, you might want to just take a deep breath and see if there are any schools you missed that you would REALLY like to attend rather than just a few schools that you would consider preferable to a gap year if your first 21 choices don't pan out.
