i have started to consider that if i don't get interviews soon that perhaps my average DAT scores are holding me back. if i did decide to retake them, how late is too late? i was hoping to finish the semester and take them right after new year's. should i shoot for earlier than that? i haven't started to re-study and i want to be super ready for the exam this time so i don't want to take it prematurely.

take them when you are ready...you may just have to wait until next cycle, and a retake with the same outcome is a waste of time, money and doesn't say what you want it to say to adcoms

I think it is too late for this cycle...if you realy want to retake, I would say that retake when you are ready. I'm in the same boat with you If I was going to get an interview, I wouldve heard something by now 🙁

how long have you had your app submitted? schools have officially had my hard copy for only a month so maybe i'm being premature in panicing. hopefully we both are.

I submitted my app in june, schools have had it since july, i've had 2 interview invites out of the 7 schools i applied to. I've heard nothing from almost every other school.

I think I have a decent shot at indiana (my state school) and I'll find out if I got in or not in about 20 days. The case interview isnt until dec. 20th.

There are some schools that fill their seats come Dec. 1st. UConn is one of them and I think maybe Indiana?

i retook mine in late january and definitely think it helped my application. just make sure you do better than the 1st time..

Indiana fills most of their seats on the first. There are still spots left for the spring interviews, but it is more competitive.

jan isnt too late if youve applied to nyu. last year, my friend got accepted in the first week of may. so, nyu goes till the very end of the year to fill its class.

So, did you get in?

OP, I would say you should wait. There is no need to rush things. Even if you did get a late interview your chances would be greatly reduced. I say take your time and do it right. You'll never regret waiting another year.

Your scores aren't even that bad and should get you some attention down the line. Don't risk retaking now and doing worse - it won't be worth it. Wait and see what happens and if you don't get in, study hard this summer and re-take the DAT.

Actually, looking at your pre-dents profile I would say you may have applied to too few schools.

i know 4 is quite a small number. there are some personal constraints that resulted in that decision.

Dont both AADSAS/ADEA let you apply/send in your DAT scores to the first 5 schools at a flat rate? Judging from the schools you applied to, it looks like you strongly prefer to go to schools in the NY and NJ region. I would've add Buffalo if I were you.

i originally sent scores to ~8 schools b/c i was considering staying in the boston area near my undergrad or going to chicago but then i did more research and realized where i want to be and where it's reasonable for me to be. saving money on housing is huge and i only get that if i'm within commutable distance to school. i also have a long term bf who will be in NYC and we want to live together after undergrad. i really, really want to get in this cycle but i am willing to wait a year in order to maximize my overall happiness and get in where i want to go. i am from north jersey and lived in manhattan this summer. i can't really picture myself anywhere else.

i am willing to work hard to ace the DATs the second time around to increase my odds of getting in this cycle for those same reasons. i think i'm going to study and wait a bit, and perhaps register in dec for the test, assuming i hear nothing before then. plus, isn't it too late to add schools now anyway? i haven't even heard from the original four yet.

yes, its a little late to add schools but in relation to retaking the dats again...its not really...good luck and i wish you success...
