I plan on applying for podiatry schools for this upcoming cycle. My grades are good (3.66c,3.44s) and I am taking the MCAT in September. I have yet to find a doctor to shadow. Do you think I can find a doctor to shadow, shadow, and get a LOR by the end of the year? Will an application sent out in December be too late for schools like DMU, Barry, or NYCOPM? Will there still be money left over for me for possible scholarships at places like Barry?

You're fine. You could have a LOR within a week of shadowing a doc.

I can't speak to scholarships, but there will be spots left at all the schools in December.

It's not late at all. Try your best to secure a shadowing position this summer and get as many hours as you can. When you are comfortable with the podiatrist and he/she seems the same way respectfully ask for an LOR.

Goodluck!

I actually found a list of "podiatric physcian mentors" from my state on AACOPM's website last night and emailed a couple. I actually already got two responses back who were both more than happy to allow me to shadow.

FYI it's NYCPM. And no it's not too late to shadow at all.

I think it was just a typo... I imagine he was using his right hand pinky to hold the shift key forcing his right ring finger to hit the "P" - which is a task typically carried out by his right pinky (which as we know was otherwise engaged). While using this foreign finger for the job his finger accidentally struck the "O" before the "P" but the OP didn't notice his "OP" until now...

Just a thought...

This is the link I used to find a Pod to shadow. Do note that the list may be a little outdated. One of the pods that I contacted had retired but he did introduce me to his partners that were still working in the office who I ended up shadowing.

All the pods on the list have agreed to let students shadow.
