Hey Guyz,

I am studying at HCC. Its my last semester. I am graduating in May 2017 with an Accosiate Degree. I am planning to take DAT at the end of August like on 21th. Is it too late or i will be fine? And do i need a bachelors degree to apply to any dental school? And when is the last acceptable DAT exam date 2017?

I took my DAT Aug 24 and I highly discourage taking it so late.

Pushing it to what?
To the point that your application will be considered "complete" later than other applicants, which means more people will have completed their applications and thus the applicant pool will be larger than had you gotten your scores submitted in June/July. Now there are more applicants per interview seat and you have greater competition for these interview seats (lesser odds of getting extended an interview invite); not to mention that some schools extend interview invites in the summer so you have a situation where the applicant pool is increasing and interview opportunities are decreasing. To put it in perspective, I applied in September with what I thought to be decent stats and was only extended two interview invites. Take the advice of those who posted above and take the DAT as early as possible. It might suck sitting down for a few weeks doing nothing but studying, but it will be well worth it to get your scores submitted earlier. Best of luck.

Thanks for the explaination. Yeah definitely, i'll take it soon.

This this this. I applied last week of September and 4 schools flat out rejected me because it was so late. I don't care if you have a 4.0 and a 24 AA. Do not apply late!

It's ok to take it that late but he problem is if you want to retake it, you will have to wait 3 months.
A shoot and a miss. While this is a concern, it's not the primary reason for taking it earlier. Also, solid website, "Only 5% applicants to dental schools get accepted." Not only is this a false statistic, but you're using it to coerce those that don't know any better into thinking that they need your help to get into D-school. Sure, some schools have acceptance rates that hover around 5%, however of the roughly 12,000 applicants to dental school each year there are about 5,000 enrollees. A-la about 42% of applicants to dental school get accepted somewhere. I know I wouldn't hire you after a simple fact check, if you even made it to that point considering the terrible grammar of said site. Maybe I woke up on the wrong side of the bed, but when people like you try and make a quick buck off of anxious students using stats that are meant to increase their anxiety, it really gets me going. For all future applicants that stumble upon this thread, you don't need a "Coach" to get into dental school, use SDN as a resource (especially this thread: Scumbag Steve's Ultimate Guide to the 2017 Application Cycle (and the universe)) and you'll be golden.

I took it aug 16th and I applied to only 4 schools and got interviews at 3. If your gpa is good then maybe you can pull it off but the sooner the better. Also when you have an unofficial score you can try calling the schools to see if they will accept it until the official one comes in

Regardless of DAT, you definitely need to look at the requirements of the schools you're looking to apply to - if I'm not mistaken, a majority do require a bachelors degree by the time you matriculate.

Also - while I agree 100% that the earlier your application is complete, the better, I took my DAT October 17, applied to two schools, got one interview, one acceptance & will be a D1 this fall

My friend was planning on taking the DAT at the end of August so she would have the full summer to study. If taking in August is too late, when in summer should she take it?

mid june

Take it in July. you'll have about 6 -7 weeks to prepare.

but I thought most schools want someone with a bachelor degree.

Are you sure OP, you'll get accepted without a bachelor degree? I have no information about this matter, I am just asking.

Wouldn't she only have like 3 weeks to study then?

Or should she start studying during her spring semester (She'll be in Orgo 2 at the time, not sure how much time she'd have to do that)

If you are applying for that cycle, taking the DAT in late august is risky because even if you DEMOLISH it, schools have already gotten thousands of competitive applications by the time your scores are officially uploaded (last couple weeks of September). Of course, if you aren't applying you can take the DAT whenever you'd like.
