Hi all,

I'm applying for med school this year and am currently working on the AMCAS application.

I have a few "top 20" med schools that I'm interested in, as well as a couple in California. From my understanding, many of these schools look for applicants that have volunteered for underserved communities.

Unfortunately, this is the one thing that my application is lacking. The rest of my app looks good I think:

Overall gpa: 3.97
ECs: Military, research, job shadowing, medical assistant, volunteer work at children's hospital, etc.

Is it too late to find some organization for "underserved" work? Or should I just apply with what I currently have?

Another thing to factor in is the MCAT... I don't get my score back for another couple of weeks, but my testing experience was worse than I thought it was going to be, and I may end up with a mediocre score...

Active military service is likely to overshadow a lack of volunteerism that serves those in need.

Your MCAT may not be mediocre like you think. I thought mine went much worse than the practice exams but ended up doing well still.
