is it true that a 3.8-4.0 GPA looks bad when coupled with a 19AA DAT score

Does that mean that the school that this person goes to is easy? I mean the national average of matriculating dental students is 19 and some students even score lower while going to better ranked schools.

Also is 19AA really a bad score? Harvard, columbia, and Penn averages are around 22-23 so that is only a few points below like the best schools in the country.

What do you guys think?

19 AA with that GPA is fine. I know plenty of people with a really high GPA and a 19 AA.

I think so.

"Only a few points lower"?....its not a linear scale....a few points is a lot....

I think it's fine 🙂 Not sure, but if it was a high GPA and a 17AA or 16AA, then that's might look odd.

I think you're fine, assuming this is Not a retake.

There was a kid a year or so ago that I remember. He was wondering how he had a 3.9 gpa and only got a 17 on the DAT. Reason I remember is because the school he went to is down the steet and was a community college less than 5 years ago. Is your school on the same level as his? If so explains it.
I only had a 3.15 gpa and scored a 22 PAT/20 AA/19TS

17 on bio though 🙁

Personally, I don't care what school I get into even if it is the worst dental school in the country. I am trying to qualify for the army scholarship so it doesn't matter what school I get into.

If this is the extent of your ambitions, then I think you're fine.

Best of luck on your applications!

LOL hhmmm I don't know if my school is easy but I was at CC but I am at a top 50 uni now and still doing well. My bio is 18  but my chem and orgo are 20 & 21

What about people who have 3.9 gpa and 20 DAT who only spent a week studying because they worked full time for a research fellowship during the summer?

Don't hate on the community colleges! Some are better than others. I took all my prerequisites at a CC and got a 25 TS. I would also argue my education there was as good or better than my current university.

The other alternative is that you have a lower GPA with your 19 DAT, which is easily a worse situation. Your stats are still good. UCLA/Columbia/Harvard/Penn are a reach but people get into these schools with all kinds of variable stats. You are still sitting better than many applicants.

if it wasn't the CC gen chem and ochem , I wouldn't have scored well on my DAT the fact that they provided me a solid foundation. Also, going to multiple schools, the CC provided me better attention and was more competitive in the sense that there was no + or - for letter grades.

So I guess I am fine then GUYS!!! lol...

Thank you. Got my associates at a CC. 24 AA, 27 TS. Boo ya:laugh:

I think the DAT does no reflect on your education, but rather upon how much effort you put into it.

Don't worry I wasn't hating at all 😛 I tutored a kid in organic chemistry last semester, however he didn't go to my school, he went to the local CC. I would basically look over his past exams with him, and they weren't much easier than mine. The only thing he said is that the exams tend to be very repetitive (last years is very similar to theirs) which I guess makes them easier. But as a first look it wasn't much easier than ours.

Its just the way ppl tend to look down on them.
