is it true that on the BS section there's only 2-3 orgo passages?

Hi there,

I took the August MCAT and there were only 2-3 (two, I think) orgo passages on there, thank goodness. Is there any chance that there could be more? I sure hope not.

Yeah, that was my experience. Yeah there is a chance that there could be more, but I doubt it. However if you want to score a 10 you need to know your orgo.

Are you asking the number of passages or the number of questions? Two or three passages could mean several questions based on each passage. That could equal a significant portion of the overall section. My exam had more than just two or three organic chemistry questions.

Good luck!

AAMC recently decreased the amount of O-chem on the exam from 30% to 25% so they could increase the amount of genetics on the test. Also, more advanced O-chem topics such as aromaticity were deleted to cover more bread-and-butter ochem, such as Sn1, Sn2, aldol condensations, and the like

does that mean we dont need to know huckles numbers and to determine what molecules are aromatic?

Organic chem is being de-emphasized on the MCAT while topics related to genetics are becoming more common. I recall three organic passages on the Aug 2004 MCAT, two of which were more biochemistry-related than strict orgo (i.e., peptide bonds, etc.).
