Is it true that search and destroy does NOT work for ESL students?

Thats what I heard. I am an ESL student and I read so damn slow. What do you guys suggest for this section?

I got a 450 on SAT reading but that was 4 years ago. I think I am a bit better now.

You just need to do practice tests with different methods and see what works best for you. I used search and destroy and got a 20, but I was getting 22+ on every RC practice test. SnD is definitely a risky method for the real DAT because difficulty varies for different tests. Find a method that you can consistently get decent scores and just stick with it/practice it. I definitely recommend skimming the entire though.

How does search and destroy actually work? Do you read the questions first and then skim through passages and write down key words about the passage?

I only have 3 top score tests to practice RC so yeah:laugh:

Tons of different methods for it. You can read the questions then start answering (my least FAV), skim entire passage then search (I used this), or just skip skimming and go straight to question 1 and search. I personally think you need to read the entire passage to answer tone/inference questions. Might be worth it to buy Qvault RC if you are really worried about it.

My test is tomorrow and i JUST started studying RC. Just did my 2nd topscore test and used the search and destroy method and got a 23 so I guess ima stick with that lol

LOL you just STARTED?

Can you explain step by step how the method works? Are most of the answers to the question can just be found easily on the passage?

I suck at reading so bad.

Like I said, I have done it once and I pretty much read the 1st question or 2 and then started skimming through the passage. After you answer the 1st 7-8 you have most likely read through the whole thing and you can figure out where the rest are or their general location

I'm not sure about S&D, but my one suggestion is pick one strategy to use and stick with it. I am a slow reader as well (and English is my first language), and for the first passage on my real DAT, I just read the whole paragraph, wrote down key terms, and then answered the questions. It took me awhile, I panicked, and thought, "Hey, a bunch of people on SDN use S&D and swear by it. I'll try that!" The thing is, I've never used it before. The second passage was a disaster as I fumbled around the questions; I would have been better off just sticking to what I knew.
