Is it uncommon to tranfer from one PT school to another?

Hi all,

Question: Is it uncommon for a student to transfer from one PT school to another? Is it uncommon for PT schools to accept the student's prior PT schools credits and allow him to skip trimesters/semesters in their program? Especially if the reason for the transfer is a dismissal from the PT program?

For someone who has been previously dismissed from a DPT program, the chances of being able to transfer are practically nil. If I were on the Adcom of a school, why take a gamble on a "tainted" candidate when I have dozens of fresh ones clamoring to get in?

I was at an info session at U of Sciences and they told me that no schools accept credits from other institutions so if you were to "transfer" (aka reapply elsewhere and get accepted) into another program, you would have to take all the credits over and start as a first year!

Its not likely at all. All programs do their courses in a different order as well are on different term types. I know of a few students who have switched programs but had to start all over. Sorry!

You'd need to reapply through PTCAS, to my understanding, just like the first time around. You don't like your program?

No, not at all. Teachers don’t teach and my classmates are very exclusive and unfriendly. I am strongly considering making a transfer, but I don’t know how to go about it especially since it is January and the classes are filling up with every passing day. I have a lot of decisions to make

There are still some programs open, but I'd jump on it if I were you and you're certain you want to switch. I might be able to help by sharing something I've learned recently regarding changing my situation, though. No matter where I go, my brain is still my brain and unless I change my thinking patterns, it'll stay that way and I'll end up unhappy wherever I go. Your situation might be different, but for myself, the best advice I got was that, until I do thoughtwork and figure out what's actually going on with my thoughts and feelings, I shouldn't necessarily try to change my situation. That's because no matter where I go, my brain is still my brain and it'll find the same patterns to look for again and again. I've been in places where my thought was that people were too clique-ish and grumpy, but I now recognize that as my thoughts rather than a disembodied reality; not saying that's your pattern, but I know it was mine in a lot of situations! I'm sure I've mentioned this elsewhere on the forums, but I can't recommend the podcast Unf*ck Your Brain enough.

That said, I'd be interested to hear about where you go to school if you wanna post about it or pm if you don't want to call them out on the forums!

I agree, please share the program if you’re comfortable to help others avoid this!!!!!! Hopefully everything works out for you in the end
